dumb captains(from 1912)

I’m not sure which forum this should go in but oh, well. The people on the Titantic could have been saved if not for the person who ordered the engines shut down. If the ship had kept going, not as much water could have gotten in which would have allowed the ship to get close to another ship for rescue. Just wanted to let someone know, now there’s more room in my head for useless facts!

[ul][li]If the engines had kept running, wouldn’t that have forced water in at a faster rate?[/li][li]Launching lifeboats would have been very difficult at speed.[/li][li]You’d be condemning the engineers and stokers to a watery grave: think they would have stayed in the engine room?[/li]You’re relying on other ships finding you. How do they do that if you keep moving?[/ul]

I prefer the theory that they should have left the watertight doors open. This (theoretically) would have allowed the ship to sink on an even keel, and the ship might have been very low in the water, but still afloat, when the Carpathia arrived, thus saving more lives.
