Actually I personally know them. And I can be an asshole, true, but this is the Pit, where one can vocalize things we all think one time or another …or is everyone so morally superior to me and never thinks that way. Oh, and to dispose a couch in my town, you put it out on the curb on bulk day…which occurs monthly

Actually I personally know them. They are not immigrants, not that it matters… And I can be an asshole, true, but this is the Pit, where one can vocalize things we all think one time or another …or is everyone so morally superior to me and never thinks that way? Oh, and to dispose of a couch in my town, you put it out on the curb on bulk day…which occurs monthly…and is free.
The op is about ignorance and my incredulity that people who benefit from the social programs that Democrats/Liberals want to maintain, will vote and support the very same officials that are keen on removing the programs from which they directly benefit.
This same party (could it be the one that rhymes with schmuplblican?) talks about “taking the town back” and " cleaning our neighborhoods up"…directing these comments toward very same group of people that are supporting them .
How and why would you know if someone is “section 8”? I guess I would understand if they live in section 8 apartments, but this sounds like someone living in a house.
Section 8 vouchers can be used for a house, provided the landlord is prepared to accept them (and meets habitability standards, among other requirements).
Are you sure they put the lawn sign up? Or did their landlord do it?
Here, we have several landlords (slumlords) who always post have the Republican candidate signs in front of their rental properties. And since they mostly rent to really lousy tenants, who make a nuisance of themself to the neighbors, seeing Republican signs in those yards is usually good for about a dozen votes from neighbors for our Democratic candidate. We look forward to those signs.
Your grandmother obviously doesn’t live in California.
Soap is very expensive here!
Best way is to light it on fire in the back yard.
Anyone with a copy of The Redneck’s Handbook knows that!
How do you throw away a stolen school bus?
You recycle it piece by piece !!! Not mine but I was hired to cut it up …
To the OP, call the Section 8 administration people and complain, the tenants are supposed to keep the unit clean and orderly. If that doesn’t work, contact your congressman, there’s an election coming up and he’ll need grandstanding opportunities.
Can’t watch from work. Is it a trebuchet? Tell me it’s a trebuchet.
Chainsaw and six-pack of Bud.
This is why I love the SDMB. A political Pit thread quickly devolves into a discussion of how to throw away furniture. You don’t get this kinda thing on npr.org, I’m just sayin’.
When trying the chainsaw approach, make sure it’s not a sleeper sofa.
A friend of mine has been on the waiting list for over 3 years!!! She was told there was an 8 month stretch of time where no one moved off the waiting list, due to budget cuts.
In a dire emergency, meaning you are homeless, and have young children, the county puts you up in a nearby motel.

Yeah, I have a friend who is a Section 8 landlord. He said that it is a pretty sweet deal, if you can get the house/apartment approved. The tenants are pretty well screened, and know that if they lose certification, they probably won’t get it back, and most of them are happy to be in the better neighborhoods section 8 gets them.
Some bad apples, of course, and YMMV.
Think of deep throat and swallowing. I’d say more but you’re at work and it might not be safe to do so.
At the very least, make sure no one is sleeping in it.
Chainsaw?
Just bounce up and down on it like you are 5 years old. Most adults doing that will destroy it pretty fast. Then soak the remains in gasoline and light on fire to celebrate. Perfect for weddings and graduation parties.
Sometimes political signs are not placed there by the residents, especially if they don’t own the property. And sometimes people’s political preferences are not dictated by what you perceive to be their most obvious traits.
I always thought Section 8 was barbed wire surrounded like District nine and flourished with cocktail sauce.
That’s a fair point. Voting against your own self-interest is not necessarily moronic. We don’t blink if a rich person supports higher, graduated tax rates and social policies that provide broad support.
That said, your point is boring.
Fuck these ignorant assholes! Fuck them with their yard signs!
