Dunkin Donuts is big-time, mega-serious business in much of the Northeast especially in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and parts of Connecticut. It has existed decades longer than Starbucks in these parts and is much more popular. Right down the road from me, you can go up to a certain 2nd story window and see 4 Dunkin Donuts, none more than a 40 second drive from the next one and two of them are 24/7. If you need more choices than that, you will have to drive up to 5 minutes before you hit the next set of them. Dunkin Donuts is Massachusetts based and some people tolerate StarBucks but it is generally viewed as too frou-frou and excessivley west coast and too Nancy-ish for comfort. I am not a coffee drinker but don’t insult Dunkin Donuts, especially a coffee regular, in the greater Boston area or you are going to have problems.
I live in a city of about 38,000 people, on the north shore of Massachusetts. We have (at least) 8 Dunkin Donuts stores. I can see one from my bedroom window, it’s in the old Oddfellow’s Hall. It’s very comforting. I remember when I lived out near South Lake Tahoe, and we would get shipments of beans in from back home. I think our closest DD was in Sacramento.
