I used to watch TV and DVDs and all that and just get the sound through the TV. What a dope! This weekend I got me some Polk Bookshelf speakers and a center channel speaker and let me tell you, it kicks major heiney! Hallelujah I have seen the glory of beautifully reproduced DTS and Dolby sound. I can hear what people are saying and the clarity of the soundtrack. The depth of field is nuh-hice! I almost want to cry…if I can leave you with one piece of wisdom (besides not to defile a hot dog with ketchup), upgrade your sound system for your TV/DVD!
As opposed to mustard? Gah! Mustard is one of the most vile and horrible creations in human history. I personally am convinced it was invented by someone who had gotten drunk and attempted to eat steaming asphalt, thereby eradicating his tastebuds and scarring the bottom of his brain; he wanted to share his god awful experience so he invented mustard which has only slightly less damaging effects on a persons palette and mental faculties. It ranks only slightly above black licorice. And don’t even get me started on the abomination that is honey mustard.
I’ll agree with you on the DVD audio issue tho’.
You’re crazy! Mustard is the perfect condiment to almost everything. I even put it on french fries sometimes.
And I definitely put it on my (meatless) hot dogs. Mustard, soy cheese, a little bit of sauerkraut…mmmm, good!
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean! Last year was the year I finally upgraded to a home theater setup (big-screen TV, 5.1 digital audio, etc.) and what impressed me most about DVD’s was not the video, but the audio. Damn, that audio sounds good! I’ll never go back!

See, you proved my point: your consumption of mustard has eradicated your ability to discern what is actually good-tasting. This is illustrated by the fact that you actually enjoy soy cheese and sauerkraut as well as mustard.
Well a home audio system was in my plans for a major home purchase, but I’ve put that off for a bit. Gotta agree on the audio stuff: watched Matrix at a friend’s place (one whole room is home theatre, including theatre seats) and the sound was amazing.
And mustard is an abomination, and an absolute insult to all that is good on the face of this planet. (Except for really, really good deviled eggs. That is the one exception I will make for mustard.
Persaonlly, I always hoped the ‘Grey Poupon’ guys would accidentally drive off a cliff. That on DVD audio would be amazing. "Pardon me, do yooooooooo[sub]ooooooooooooooo[sub]ooooooooooooooo[sub]oooooooooooo[sub]ooooooooo[sub]ooooooooooo…
<clunk>
I’m not crazy about Grey Poupon either, but it’s unfair to tar all mustards with the GP brush.
Spicy brown mustard, for example, is nicely tangy and will replace the standard yellow for most applications.
How can anyone not like sauerkraut? It’s like pickles made with shredded cabbage!
And ketchup’s okay on fries, but definitely not on my (meatless) hot dogs.
Easy, if you don’t eat mustard than you know sauerkraut tastes like… cabbage.
Our DVD sound comes through our stereo system, surround sound and all. It’s wonderful, isn’t it? I’m amazed at the background sounds that you miss when you don’t have surround sound.
I like ketchup, mustard, AND relish on my (meaty) hotdogs. I’ll only put saurkraut on Bratwurst… along with ketchup and mustard.
DVD-Audio can lick my nuts.
The lack of a digital output and lack of any decent kind of bass management leave both SACD and DVD-A off of my current “must have” toys. And this is from a technophile and someone who’s had a home theater for 2 years now!
It’s a shame. When the RIAA and the MPAA get over their copyright bullshit and finally pull their heads out of their asses and let manufacturers have a digital output, maybe I’ll pay some attention to it.
My Home theater- http://photos.yahoo.com/local420us click the link that says “Home Theater”, misspelled.
Sam
The link doesn’t work.
And I am a bit confused, is there a format called DVD-Audio? I was simply referring to DVD audio in more generic terms. What is DVD-A?
Tretiak-
THere is a format called DVD-A. But hopefully it dies a much-deserved death along with SACD. Both of them use Analog outputs–6 of the to be exact, and all in the name of “Copyright protection” Bah!
Also, the music selection of both blows…unless you feel like listening to Jazz or some other shit.
DVD rocks the house, yes, you’re right. Gotta love it.
THe link worked for me…I tried it, and then I signed out and tried it, and it still worked. It’s just Yahoo! being lame.
Sam
Tretiak, I dug up a forum post from another forum on DVD-A and SACD…If you’re interested.

I’m obviously in agreement with the OP.
