DVD autorun formatting question....from a computer tech

Win7 pro, SP1

I have a machine, any time I insert a DVD, it formats it, this would be fine if not for the fact I need to burn an ISO to the disk.

Turning off all relevant autorun and autoplay features so far…no change, even disabled CD/DVD burn support via group policy and registry…still formats instantly and will not allow me to burn an ISO to it.

This is maddening and googling relevant terms is a swamp of unrelated issues.

any ideas?

This should be the normal behavior. There should be a prompt. Do you have any 3rd party burning software installed? like Roxio?

I wrote an ISO last month. It was a hard drive utility that made a bootable cd.

This guy had the identical problem in Win Vista. Seems like it should work in Win 7.

Yeah, I have Win7 (and worked with Vista, XP, W2003, W2008, W2012) and never saw the autoformat behaviour. Very odd. I wonder if somewhere once upon a time you answered “yes” to the wrong prompt.
