DVDs were supposed to bring us beautiful entertainment at a low price.
Fuck that shit. DVDs suck major ethnic minority cock.
In the 15 years I’ve rented VHS tapes, I could count my problems with tapes that were defective on one hand.
In two years of renting DVDs, the figure is easily 50.
DVDs that skip ahead 7 minutes for no reason? That’s great! DVDs that just stop playing? That’s great! DVDs that pause and choke for five minutes at a stretch? Cool! Just spritz them down with Windex.
Here’s a better idea. How about sucking my fat albino cock?
DVDS are fine, IF you buy them. Otherwise, you can expect the other rental assholes to treat them like fucking cocktail coasters.
Here’s a better idea. How bout putting VHS flicks on widescreen so I don’t have to deal with this monkey horseshit ever again?
You can’t blame DVDs for the abuse they get from Renters.
The thing about rental VHS tapes is that they get replaced after a while. But DVDs are meant to last forever, so they aren’t really scheduled as many replacements. Possibly not any.
You’re really ranting about the cheapo renters who do not handle DVDs with due care.
It’s just as likely your player… but let’s talk about this statement for a moment. I’m intrigued. Are we talking about Kurds? Canadians? Russian Jews? Is sucking the cock of some minorities preferable to others? What’s the hierarchy?
I much prefer needing to wipe popcorn butter fingerprints off my DVD with windex than being subject to ugly VHS artifacts from videos that have been played too much, and the lovely problems from slightly creased tapes. The video is much sharper, not to mention the infinitely better audio. Not to mention the ability to chapter skip, not having to rewind, and being able to fast forward or rewind at any speed.
Get a better DVD player. When I used my PS2 as a DVD player, I had no end of troubles. Since I bought a Marantz, I have not had a single problem, even viewing the same DVDs.
No, that’s not the answer. I buy them as well as rent them, and the problem isn’t confined to rentals. The things are way too delicate. Much more delicate than CDs.
Plus there’s subtle firmware issues. I’ve got a few players, and if they all reject a disc, then fair enough, the disc is damaged. If they all play it, then it isn’t damaged. But what often happens is that one player will refuse to play a disc that another has no problem with, whilst with another disc, the first player will work but the second one won’t.
You’re only calling me a putz because you want to handle my penis. Not to mention that you know I’m right. About what I said earlier. Not about you wanting to handle my penis. Which you do. Want to do.
If someone had told you 20 years ago that you’d be able to get a whole movie, with tons of extras like director’s commentary, “making of” documentaries, out takes and all kinds of other cool stuff, with a pin-sharp freeze frame and the ability to skip straight to any part of the film you wanted instantly… all this, on a little disc not much bigger than a cracker - AND that the immensely complex laser equipment needed to read said disc could be picked up at WalMart for comfortably less than a hundred bucks any day you choose, then I do believe you would have laughed in their face.
Get over it, dude - buy a decent DVD player, buy some DVDs, and look after the suckers. We’re talking precision manufacturing here, and that doesn’t mix with pretzel crumbs, boy.
Hey! This is consumer technology we’re talking about here. DVDs are some of the least scratch-resistant media I’ve ever seen - combine that with people who make players with substandard laser pickups, and there’s gonna be trouble.
IIRC, when the DVD specs were being compiled, the creators pondered including a caddy in the design. Possibly this would have been a good idea.
If you buy a product labeled “DVD Player” it should be good enough to play DVDs. I don’t give a shit if it costs $29.99, it should not be a piece of crap that doesn’t play half the discs put into it. Somebody is licensing this technology, no? Do they have NO standards?
If you go to a movie rental place and they offer DVDs, they should not be so fucked up that they don’t play in the average player. I had one where the lamination was coming apart! Is it too much to ask that these companies retire damaged DVDs and get new copies?
Sure, MrSarcasticus can buy a Marantz for $300, and build up a collection of DVDs that he only wanted to watch once, why should he have to?
I didn’t know previously that you just some random teenage asshole. I’ve informed myself now, having read the CafeSoc thread Anyone going to get an N-Gage?
Jesus. The more people get, the more they want.
Fifteen years ago, a decent VCR cost about £300, and the picture quality was, at best, average. Now, you want top-notch performance for less than a tenth of the price? Not going to happen.
The better and cheaper everything gets, the more people complain because they can’t have it all. Just the same way that --to throw in another quick rant – modern medicine is now so good that if people go to hospital and don’t get cured, they’re now all ready to sue the fuckin’ doctors.
Let’s get a reality check. For the same price as a shitty VCR in 1990, you can now get a pretty darn good DVD player. And that’s not even allowing for inflation.
