Just a follow-up question to a revent post: Do all DVD players say that the DVD player must be connected directly to your TV? And if so: Why are they selling combo DVD-VCRs? I WAG the circuitry prevents copying DVDs onto VCR tape, but c’mon! Lighten up, Francis! I mean, is Hollywood now “Big Brother” (or Big Bother?) - Jinx
My DVD player, when connected through my VCR for use on a TV without RCA inputs, does not play very well. The picture constantly becomes lighter and darker, and IIRC the sounds gets funny too. Sometimes the signal degrades to the point that the VCR will “Blue Screen” for 15-20 seconds (meaning no signal present).
I believe all of this is due to Macrovision protection, which can be disabled on some newer DVD players, if you know the right combination of buttons to push on the remote.

Not to go off topic, but why bother? Just-released DVDs of top movies only cost $15 or $20. And once you go DVD, you’ll never look at VHS the same way (or at all) again!
