DVD player keeps pausing

Please please please don’t tell me that I have to go buy a new dvd player.

Here’s the problem:

I put in a dvd, and it plays fine, but then it just pauses for a few seconds (maybe 5, maybe 30 seconds) then it goes back to playing. This happens with just about every dvd I try to play.

I’ve had the player for, I don’t know, 3 years, and this has only started happening recently.

Is there some “DVD Head Clear” or some such that I should use?

Or do I just have to go buy a new dvd player and risk being trampled?

Since it’s doing it to almost every DVD you put in you can assume that the DVD player itself needs to be cleaned and not each individual DVD. You can buy a DVD lens cleaner for your player and that should solve your problem. DVD players get dust build up inside of them and can cause your DVD’s to pause and skip.

Does it happen right from the start, or only after the DVD player has been on for awhile? If its only after its been on for awhile, it could be a case of the machine overheating because of dust or overpacking on your entertainment center shelf…

If it only happens once on each disc, when it’s roughly halfway through, it’s probably just changing layers, which all DVD players have to do.

That doesn’t sound like what’s happening, though, from what you’ve said.

DVD/CD drive cleaning discs are a bad idea. They frequently make things worse rather than better. Here’s an alternative: Take the money you’re going to spend on a new DVD player and the cost of a DVD cleaning disc and buy a better DVD player.

Unless you know the right way to take apart and clean a DVD/CD player, it’s probably a loss.

3 years? That’s actually pretty good for most consumer electronics nowadays.

There’s a button on the remote of your DVD player, it should have a label resembling this:

Quit pressing it.
