DVD Request...

This could be a IMHO or even GQ OP, but since it involves DVD media I will ask it here.
Does anyone know of a DVD that is just footage of Jellyfish splurshing TM around like they do? This is, hopefully, a Christmas present for Mrs. Prefect, so please, keep it a secret between us.

That is an odd request. If it is allowed to have other animals in it as well, there are surely some that spend a lot of their time talking about jellyfish, and presumably showing footage of said creatures. There is one series of DVDs, that I neither endorse nor deride, about creatures that are so weird they defy evolution… Called in fact, Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution. These DVDs might have what you need.

There is also The Living Sea that has some footage of a school (?) of jellyfish doing their thing.

Failing that, you can probably find a screensaver for PC that has jellyfish “splurshing” around, that would be similar to those fishtank ones you can get.

Not a great deal of help, I know, but it’s the best I’ve got.

If Mrs. Prefect is into weird Japanese movies, there’s Akarui mirai. Luckily, no tentacle porn involved.

Aliens of the Deep? Tho I’m not sure how much jellyfish is in it.

Maybe one of these?

Ordered.

That was help enough. Thanks everyone! In order to get the free shipping I added Brian Greene’s latest book. Which is also up her alley. Two gifts down, thanks to the Dope.

I see that The Living Sea, a movie about jellyfish, lists Meryl Streep as its lead actress.

Boy, you’ve really got to admire that woman’s range.

I know you already oredred, but I wonder if there is a “Nova” or “Nature” DVd with Jellyfish.

Why didn’t I think of Nova? Why didn’t I bring my wallet to work today? Two different questions, but with the same answer…

I can’t find anything on jellyfish in the Nova DVD section

This probably won’t help, but Amazon Japan has Kurage no Shinpi (The Mystic World of the Jellyfish)

I will recommend Blue Planet; produced by the BBC and narrated by acclaimed naturalist David Attenborough, this documentary series is popssibly a bit more ‘lightweight’ on actual science than some of his other notable works, however, it more than makes up for this on the stunning visuals. It’s obviously not all jellyfish footage, but there’s bound to be a generous helping of it in there, along with other breathtaking underwater stuff like bait balls.

Sorry for the necropost, but last night’s (at least on my PBS station) Nature about the Monterrey Aquarium quite a but on jellyfish.

also, there is a jellyfish section, complete with net viewable video

The show looked awesome in HD by the way.
