DVD skipped exactly like a vinyl record

I was watching A Mighty Wind" and at some point it started skipping over a second long interval. I’ve had freezes etc before, but I never seen this.
Thank You

You’re welcome.

Thanks to the resurgence of vinyl, makers of digtal music players are adding features that add the charming and delightful characteristics of LPs – skips, clicks, pops, and hiss – to annoyingly perfect digital recordings.

You should be able to find a menu option somewhere to turn it off.

I would say you had some dirt on the disk.

But, here’s a story that might not apply to you in this instance:

One night, a few years back, my Magnavox 5-CD Carousel changer had a similar problem. I was doing something and had a CD playing when the disk jumped backwards about 15 seconds then started forward again then jumped back again but a longer distance this time. Started forward again and repeated the same thing with a different backward distance each time. Hmmm, I hmmm-ed. The skip point was almost the same each time–off by maybe a second, two at the most. The #@$% CD has a glitch, I thought. Inspection of the disk revealed nothing. Put the same disk back in and timed the total distance to the skip point. Took out that disk, put in another and started timing and, sure-as-shit, at roughly the same disk time, the whole process repeated itself. One more disk got the test run with the same results.

I have no qualms with opening up devices, even though I have a sorta limited idea what goes on inside. Took off the lid, shone a light inside, put in a CD, and just watched what was going on. When it skipped again, I saw the culprit and couldn’t believe my eyes: A tiny piece of the fish line they bundle wires with had broken off and lodged in the transport gear and when that part of the gear made contact with the worm-gear on the spindle, it jumped backwards. There was just enough old, dried-out, crusty grease to cement that tiny piece of plastic to the gear. Excised the plastic bit and everything is copacetic (I have been waiting EONS to use that word).

I apologize for my appalling terminology with the innards of the CD changer, but if that happens to you again, especially with a different disk, you’ll have one less thing to puzzle over. I would think the guts of a CD player are similar to a DVD.
(I hope someone else comes on here and relates similar tales of that type; I might just start another thread.)

(And I hope commasense is pulling our leg.)
