I read over the timeline and I didn’t see any instances where the child’s family did anything wrong. I must have missed them.

I think it’s safe to assume we’re missing something on that time line. Whenever I hear something like that I always ask myself a question…in this case it’s …why weren’t they invited to the party. I remember seeing her on the news (the mom) and I’m willing to bet they’re the nasty trashy people I wouldn’t much want at a party to begin with and maybe that’s the reason, but I wonder I have to wonder if something happened previous to the first entry on the time line.
I mean, sure this is in response to not being invited to a birthday party, but if this is how she reacts to not being invited to a birthday party is it really someone you’d want to socialize with in general? Like I said, maybe “who they are” is the reason they weren’t invited or maybe something happened before this that we don’t know about.
I’m sure Petkov was a horrible bitch LONG before this series of incidents. How far back do you want them to research?
I’m not saying they need to research it any farther back then they feel like researching it. I’m just saying we (the public) should keep in mind that this likely stems from something more then the lack of birthday invitation. I’m sure it was a series of escalating events and it’s just easy for the media to say things like “How can you say these vile things because you weren’t invited to a party?”
OTOH, I really haven’t kept up with the story, has anyone asked the other family why they didn’t invite them? Of course, I doubt they’re going to say “They’re white trash that we don’t wish to associate with”. From the little bits and pieces of seen they just express amazement that Jennifer could be so nasty to a little disabled girl. My guess is that they were just trying to get it to blow over rather then have the entire country digging into the story.
I guess it’s just another reminder that it only takes a moment of stupidity to wind up an internet sensation. Especially nowadays with cell phone cameras and direct connections to the web…and even more so with things like twitter and facebook where it’s so easy to share things so they spread really rapidly.
There were many many moments of stupidity. This is one of the first videos of the Petkovs, a local TV station interview. This woman was not secretly videotaped acting like she did, she acted out in the full knowledge that they were going to report it on the local news.
In some of the early reporting Scott Petkov remarked his wife Jennifer, the antagonist in this story, was ‘brutally honest’ or something to that effect. I won’t claim a correct quote on that.
I am intimately familiar with a person who exhibits the belief that ‘it’s good to be blunt’ and under that guise she says anything she damn well pleases, and will get angry with you if you are bothered by it or disagree, since of course, she is never wrong. Furthermore in her world all facts are nested within her own beliefs, regardless of reality, so any attempt to correct a problem is futile, to put it kindly.
Yeah, I know a Jennifer. There’s really no helping a person like this, and yes, they are that troubled. Sure there may be a lot more to the backstory, but for the purposes of this situation I don’t think it would add any clarity to the events as we need to know them.
I’m a pretty blunt guy myself. It’s not really the “brutal honesty” that’s at issue, it’s that she (apparently) wants a 7 year old child to suffer and die. If she was rational, and still brutally honest, all this shit would never have happened.
Yeah, me too. This doesn’t seem to be a case of “Both of them are CRAZY!” to me.
I saw the video that Boyo Jim linked to. If that woman lived next door to me, I’d be filing restraining orders against her too. And her husband. Where’s a good Salem Witch trial when you need one?
It is especially egregious in light of the terrible nature of Huntingtons disease. It wastes the body and paralyses the minds ability to move it. My sisters husband had it and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Her daughter refuses to have children for fear they would have it. I will say after hearing this story that the wrong person had it here. Or maybe not as it seems to only strike good people.
I don’t even want to watch the videos of this woman. I have a feeling my blood pressure would spike to dangerous levels and I’m reeeeeeeeally not in the mood for that shit right now. I’m just going to take everyone’s word for it that she’s an abominable shitstain who deserves to be nuked from orbit.
That poor little girl. She’s at peace now, wherever she is.
September 2008 — Rose’s daughter and Petkov start filing threat complaints with the Police Department against each other.
September 2008 — **Rose files a complaint of indecent exposure against Scott Petkov, Jennifer Petkov’s husband. **
October 2008 — Child Protective Services is called by an anonymous person on Scott Petkov. Interviews and investigations find the allegations untrue.
Is picking on a child the WORST of the acts? Yes. But BOTH families were guilty of escalating the ill feelings.
Calling Rose “guilty” implies that her complaints were untrue. If the Petkovs were actually doing crazy stuff all along, it was totally appropriate to alert the police to the neighborhood craziness.
I’ve got a neighbor very much like Mrs. Petkov- crazy and loves drama. The only cure is to move, or implement ‘operation total interaction blackout’.
Well, if you are being threatened you are supposed to report it, aren’t you? Same goes with if a guy exposes himself to you. And as far as Child Protective Services goes, Scott was cleared but they did take them from Jennifer, and no outsider is truly going to know who is doing what behind closed doors.
Nope, I have no problem with any of this.
Alerting authorities in an attempt to protect oneself =/= needlessly escalating an argument.
Regarding the anonymous complaint to Child Protective Services - that could’ve been Petkov’s first husband. He swooped in and took custody of their kids as soon as the story hit the papers. He may’ve been trying to get the kids all along.
