E-cigarettes: What's your setup?

I have two eGo clone pens, but my faves are my two Ecto Envy http://shop.ectoworld.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=111. Small and cute, but put out a hell of a lot of vapor, and I like that they have the cap so the tip doesn’t get ooked up by the other stuff in my purse/pocket.

I’ll probably never advance beyond this level, but like others have said, if you like what you’re using, why worry?

PS: I realize you’re a man and the Envy is girly, but just on the off chance that there are some other chicks on here, I thought I’d mention them.

No leaks is a huge plus for anyone, and it reminded me of something else worth mentioning.

There are certain flavors notorious for causing leaks. They are known as “tank crackers”, because one of the components of the flavoring damages polycarbonate, typically what clear tanks are made out of. If those flavors appeal to you you MUST use an all-metal or glass tank or it’ll end up wrecking the tank you have and running all over you. Before I learned this I went through a ton of old-style clearomizers and couldn’t figure out why.

Also, there are certain flavors that cause great controversy. The most famous one is cinnamon due to cinnamaldehyde (what gives it its flavor) being cytotoxic. Some users insist that inhaling cinnamon-flavored e-juices are harmful and will give you popcorn lung or otherwise harm you, but I have used an atomic fireball-flavored juice with no issues (though I don’t anymore). It’s up to you, just do your research and decide your comfort level with what you learn.

Thanks, Airman–very informative.

Thanks, Jake. This will definitely help.

I’m with you. Although I do mix my own juice. I don’t really consider it “making” my own juice, because all I’m really doing is mixing nicotine extract - if I want nicotine - propylene glycol, glycerine and flavors. Mostly I use Vapor Shots Tribeca knockoff, but I do make some blends for my husband. If I have a gunky chest cough, I add a single drop of eucalyptus essential oil, and that clears the gunk right out. Tastes terrible, though. It’s like vaping a drunk koala butt.

I don’t mix my own juice out of hipster superiority. I mix my own juice because I’m cheap. It’s less than a dime per mL if you buy big enough bottles of the ingredients.

But as for the equipment, I’m still pretty basic. EVOD style tanks and eGo style batteries. I do like the twist variable voltage kind. I’m a bit annoyed that the latest kind my husband’s picked up don’t accommodate my lanyard.

I tried the ProTank II, and hate it. I loved it for two or three days, but now can’t get vapor for shit and it leaks everywhere. I’ve replaced every damn seal on the thing. It’s clunky and heavy and still won’t produce vapor for shit.

I’m quite content with a cheap basic set up. I have no desire to get into mods (seriously - 30 VOLTS?! That just can’t be safe.) I really don’t have any desire to get a different style tank that would require me to switch over to different attys. I —

SQUEEE! OMG, IT’S SO CUTE!!! WANT!

(But I bet that tiny battery needs a lot of charging. And it definitely won’t work with my lanyard. :frowning: )

I’ve got a pretty basic setup. Two 1300 mAh Vision Spinners and too many Kanger MT3s tanks. 2.5 ohms in the atomizers and I usually set the voltage around 4 volts.

I recently started getting my juice from Vape Wild. With my first order they sent me three 10 ml samples in the same PG/VG ratio (50-50) and nic level (9 mg).

I’m comfortable with this setup. I have no interest in getting into mods or making my own juice.

The term “mods” is really just something that can take a big battery and later in life, is capable of variable voltage/oms.

They’re not scary at all. I use Boge LR or SR cartomizers on all of my mods, they’re nothing special but you can pay big bucks for the, um, Big name vaporizers. I drop mine quite often and sometimes it affects the way they work, my latest Vamo, for example, the minus button lost it’s detent and would frequently change the settings on its own, while in my pocket; not a big problem but on dropping it subsequently, it started malfunctioning quite a bit more. anyway, for $30.00 I ordered another one. I wouldn’t consider paying over $200.00 for a vaporizer that I could ruin by dropping it once or twice.

Actually, the battery’s not that bad, depending on your vaping style. It’s only 420 mAh, but for me that works because I don’t vape nearly as much as I smoked, and I only need about 3 hits of the 8 mg nicotine to make my brain happy. So for me, it lasts several days.

Plus…not to make you jealous or anything  I have the blue and the gold, so there’s always one charged up and ready to go.

What were you using in it? Did you try putting power to the coil on an empty tank? It’s a glass tank, I see, but your juice might have eroded the seals. Also, I have a Kangertech EVOD and I’ve never really been happy with it, the coils burned out repeatedly for me. When the coil goes bad it doesn’t atomize the juice, it just gets sucked through and gives you a mouthful of it.

Sometimes you just get some bad equipment, too. These things happen.

Pain ol’ pg/vg Tribeca nothing fancy or caustic. It would be comical if not so annoying. Each piece has been replaced. Every seal, the top, the bottom, the middle…it’s a Ship of Theseus at this point.

I’ve decided I just like the EVOD tank style better. Nothing open, so nothing can leak. Hold the thing upside down and shake, and nothing can come out, because it’s all sealed, including the mouthpiece.

Just a word of warning, based on your recommendation, I ordered the iTaste from Hoosier ($37.99), and it came without a tank. It wasn’t a problem, because I had also ordered a separate Nautilus Mini, and nothing on the website indicated that the iTaste came with a tank, so I didn’t feel misled. Another inconsistency: the manual for the iTaste told me to be sure to use the high quality “included charger,” which was not included. Again, no big deal; I already have a large surplus of USB wall warts.

There might be a starter package from Hoosier that does come with a tank that I missed. I saw such a package on another vendor’s website.

Mostly, though, I am posting to thank you all for this thread. I am not saying that I’m quitting smoking, because every time that I’ve said that before, it’s failed. My new year’s resolution in 2004 was to quit quitting, because it made me and everyone around me miserable, and never worked. But I’m hopeful that now, based in large part on your recommendations, chiroptera, but thanks to the rest of you as well, maybe I might be sneaking up on it.

So, to answer the OP, that’s my setup, of less than one day, since the iTaste arrived in the mail today: Innokin iTaste MVP 20 Watt with an Aspire Mini Nautilus tank. A sample of four flavors from Backwoods Brew: Backo, 555, Casablanca, and Malty Toffee. First two 18 mg, second two 12 mg, because I wanted to try different strengths.

Kyrie Eleison, right you are. TheiTaste MVP 20 does not come with a tank - I remember that now. More recently I bought the Innokin Energy, and that one does come with a tank.

Good choice on your purchase! BWB Casablanca is one of my favourite juices ever.

BTW, I started vaping as a way to cut down, harm reduction. Then I found myself forgetting to smoke. Then cigarettes started tasting nasty, and because I was smoking so much less I started smelling the stale smoke odor on my clothes, my house, my vehicles…also nasty. So I quit almost by accident.

I also quit by accident. Got started vaping because there were fewer and fewer places where people could smoke, basically ended up outside with the smokers anyway because of the staring, glaring, hand waving and phony coughing, followed by a visit from the manager, tried to explain it’s not smoke, decided it wasn’t worth the hassle and just hung with smokers.

Found myself sometimes reaching for the ecig instead of a cigarette at home, then one day I ran out of cigarettes and just never bought any more. I was using 18mg and 24mg at the time – now use mainly 12mg, sometimes down to 6 or 8mg, and still keep some 18mg around for the times I want a quick jolt.

I smoked over two packs a day for over 40 years. Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) indeed.

BTW, these days I have no desire for a cigarette. Zero.

I never intended to quit, either. I had to fly to Alaska one weekend for a program I was trying to get into, so I would be spending a lot of time in airports, and didn’t want to smell like cigarettes to those I was trying to impress while I was there. Unfortunately, I didn’t know any better, and bought a cheap setup at 7-11, so I failed at the second part and wound up smoking while I was there. I didn’t get into the program.

After I got home I was intrigued enough that I bought a real starter kit online. Over two or three weeks I went back and forth between analogs and e-cigs, then just stopped buying cigarettes. That was four years ago. Don’t miss 'em at all.

What does it taste like? I might have to give it a shot if I can get it in 50/50.

It wasn’t by accident for me, it was with full intention. Still, I’m glad to see it works by accident, too.

I picked up a Kanger Subtank this weekend, a hybrid of sorts. If I wanted to spend a ton of money on Kanger coils I could use the required attachment and burn through 3 coils a week, but I don’t. Instead, I’m using the included RBA deck capable of running dual coils (which takes a bit of work) or a single coil at the cost of higher resistance.

Right now I’m running dual coils at .7 ohms (hence the “Subtank” name, it’s a sub-ohm atomizer) on my Dovpo E-LVT at 22 watts, hotter than anything I’ve ever run before. And it’s amazing. If you set it up properly it is ridiculously flavorful, lots of vapor, lots of airflow. For more advanced users it’s awesome, though it’s not for new users, especially with the RBA deck.

The bad news is the cost. I paid $55 for it, which is more than was paid for the mod I’m using it on. You can get it cheaper, but I saw it and wanted it so I paid the full retail premium. Look around and you can beat the price.

Do you find you burn through the juice faster with it?

I bought a Kanger protank and despite it’s dimensions it didn’t seem like I could fill it as much as my cheapo iClear 16b. It was also burning a lot more per drag. And the 16b is just so much more discreet. When I am holding it my hand with my little itaste vv battery, I could almost be mistaken for holding a big pen. More importantly, it goes in a pocket like an oversized pen. There is no way I’m wearing a lanyard.

You have to change the coil a little more often for good clean taste. Change it once a week or so and I’m happy with it. Not to get all spiritual in a hardware thread, but I guess I like certain vices to be basic so they don’t elevate to hobbies. Lol.

Volcano Inferno batteries with the Inferno version of the TubeTank. I have several Clearos as backups. I prefer the large ones, but have a lot of the short ones, too.

I really like the Volcano juices, but only order them if I’m ordering equipment (preferably when I’m in the USA). Otherwise it’s Chinese juice from a company in Guangzhou that’s been pretty reliable.

I don’t even know what my setup is. I just bought what the guy in the store suggested when I told him my smoking habits. I only smoked when I drank more than 2-3 drinks. So it was maybe once a week. But I would binge and usually smoke a whole pack and then feel horrible the next day. Since I started the e-cig I have not had a real cigarette in a month. It’s been really great for me.

Who the hell buys some of those bizarre flavors? I bought a pizza bottle, because I was desperate and it was the only 18mg nic one they had all the others were 0mg and it was on clearance cheap.

OMG it tastes like a mixture of black pepper and oregano and BURNS my sinuses when I exhale out my nose.
