My nine year old daughter is asking for an e-mail address. I’ve told her she can use our verizon.net address, but she insists that all her friends (well, two of them anyway) have their own, separate addresses. Is there internet based e-mail service (yahoo.com, hotmail.com?) that would be good for kids? Any other suggestions? I really don’t want her getting spammed with porno etc.
I believe you can set up hotmail to only receive mail from those in your address book - that’s a pretty effective spam blocker to my mind. There are a number of options at mail.com also - I don’t get any spam to that account.
Avoid netscape.net accounts. I’ve had mixed results with yahoo. I’m not sure what my daughter uses - I’ll ask her when she gets home.
Are saying that she doesn’t want her own account though Verizon.net? How about KidMail I have never used it and it looks as though it is not free. I use a free account through MyWay I don’t get much spam (they have spam blocking) there but if one gets on a list somehow then there is not much you can do to stop the flow.
Thanks guys. KidMail looks pretty good, actually, but they are asking for ~$8/mo. Hmm.
I have used http://www.mailpuppy.com for some young cousins’ accounts.
Good spam filters, no mega offensive mail…
It’s also free.
Does she mean she just doesn’t want to share your address? If so, can you not get multiple e-mail addresses on the one Verizon account without paying extra? I can get 5 addresses on my ISP so my children each have their own address at no extra charge.
