- I am converting an old out of print book to a PDF, by scanning the pages and then using OCR software on them. The book is technical and contains a fair bit of complex math, and I was planning to work up the chapters in MS Word and then do the layout using InDesign, for conversion to PDF.
…I am wondering though how peoples using other languages translate these things, or if they can translate them electronically at all–as text can’t generally be copied and pasted from a PDF. Is there some format available that is more-acceptable than a PDF or Word doc? I’m aware of the TeX/LaTeX route, but don’t know if that’s any better than anything else for this purpose.
