Is there any home remedy for releasing the pressure and unnecessary fluid in the ear, when one has an ear infection? I feel like I need to go into a decompression chamber to make my ear pop. It feels awful. The throbbing and swishing noise is driving me nuts.
Small tip–
Make absolutely sure you have an ear infection and not something else. If a doctor doesn’t see evidence of bacterial infection, you might have an inner ear problem, which might give you the symptoms you describe. (I speak from experience, not medical expertise–IANAD–on this one.) Have you been feeling dizzy recently? How is your hearing?
According to the ENT (Otolyarngologist–ear, nose and throat person) I ended up seeing, most general practitioners don’t really know all that much about inner ear problems, so they often go misdiagnosed for months.
I hope your ear feels better soon.

The urgent care doctor gave me this advice the last time I had an ear infection. The infection had cleared up with antibiotics, but some fluid remained to cause me problems. You close your mouth and plug your nose and then GENTLY blow air as if you were exhaling through your nose. The air will be forced up to your ears instead and should make your ears pop, relieving things for a time.
He also recommended a low dose of Sudafed (one pill in the morning, I think) to help dry things up.
No dizziness, virtually no pain, some discomfort, hearing is fine. All I feel is pressure, and that annoying swishing noise! I know the swishing is just my pulse resonating due to the inflammation/pressure, but my god is it maddening!! I could barely get to sleep last because of swish swish swish swish… my pillow may as well have been a running washing machine.
