Watching the old “Perry Mason” TV show got me interested in their author-E.S. Gardner. Then, while browsing the library stacks, I came upon a whole series of books written by him, concerning his adventures in Baja California. These books were written in the period 1962-68, and are quite interesting-Gardner apparently assembled some informal expeditions (he had archaeologists, botanists, naturalists), and poked around Baja. The books are quite interesting-has anyone written a sequel to them?
I have to go back to Baja some day-I spent a honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas-and it was wonderful-do any of you SoCal Dopers go there?
Nitpick: As all us Crossword Puzzle Junkies know, it’s “Erle” Stanley Gardner
My old coworker lives in Tijuana, and I went down to visit him there once. It was interesting seeing the Tijuana of middle class professionals rather than the Tijuana of Calle Revolucion. He took me to a restaurant called La Diferencia, which was easily the best Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to, and ranks with the best meals I’ve ever had in my life.
I’ve been on longer driving trips to Rosarito and Ensenada, but these days, the horrific news of violence in Mexico makes me reluctant to spend much time there.
