I know you’re all sick of threads about guns, but I want to look back - were there any equivalents to today’s laws in aid of gun safety (like automatic weapons bans and what not) back in the day, and how early on did these pass?
The nearest you could get to semi-automatics, let alone automatics, in the infancy of the republic was the old New York reload, just grab a new weapon - would authorities stop you if you carried as many loaded pistols strapped to your person as possible? What about the heavier stuff - if you wanted to stick 24-pounder cannons in your house would the law interfere?
I’m assuming that if you were a free black the law would find some way of keeping firearms out of your hands.
