That is Cool! Any other People touched by these acts?

I just saw the Plimsouls a week ago, for the first time in 25 years. They were really good. Many bands reunite and they’re shells of their former selves. The 'Souls were loud and together and not pathetic in the least…they ROCKED!

My Plimsouls story was 25 years ago, the summer of '81. I was in Dallas, hanging out at the Hot Club, drinking at the bar, wondering who these Plimsouls fellows I saw on the schedule were, when the MC stepped up to the mic and said “Ladies and Gentlemen, all the way from L.A., Planet recording artists, THE PLIMSOULS!”. Four guys who were dressed in thrift store suits whipped their heads around, downed their drinks, ran up onto the stage, then click-click-click-BAM! They kicked into Hush, Hush, one of my favorite songs (now). They put on a tight, energetic show, and a big fan was made that night.

I know most of those bands.

Where’d you hang out in LA? You ever hear of a band from NoCal called Head On? Or The Kidz? or USA? Holiday of Hands? Small Bay Area bands that gigged in LA a bit…

I worked in a record store in the early eighties. Sigh.

The Bongos and Belfegore were among my favorites; I’d pay big money for CDs, and have seeking such for years.

Yes to all. Even seen some of them live.
You’re missing a whole lot of good bands, though.

Not really my scene–I was more into prog rock at the time–but I did once see the Gleaming Spires when they served as both the support act and backing band for Sparks.

I was (and still am) into the hard rock/heavy metal scene, which might explain why none of these are familiar to me. Still, I’m surprised I don’t know more of these as I was exposed to a lot of 80’s pop in spite of my general dislike of it.

I actually saw The Romatics in concert. No good bands ever come here, it seems. Of course, the Romatics are hardly legendary. They opened for the Kinks. We do get a lot of country acts and a lot tribute bands, and the casinos, who usually book get a lot of “older” type stuff, but I can’t think of a single example, would probably be looking to book 80s bands that are touring again. All of us punks from then 80s are, well, older now, aren’t we?

Yeah it was. We rocked.

I worked just about every club in the LA, orange, SF vALLEY, iNLAND Empire… Including The Hollywood pUNK pALLACE,Wongs Chinatown & West,Blah Blah Cafe, Ivar Theater,Music Machine,Club 88, Forum,Greek Theater,Knotts Berry farm… and on west coast tours (Bay Area = Keystone Palo Alto, the Stone SF ,kEYSTONE bERKLEY, cAL Poly slo, UCSB,UCSD,UCLA, USC, and in the end of the Disco days at Flippers (Roller Skate Club) Saw First so cal show of Romeo Void at Roxy in Hollywood (Other Beat Roadie went to High School with Lead axe man)…

Oh Lord! I had forgotten the Plimsouls - they were* magnificent*!!!

Thanks for reminding me!

I saw the Romantics probably 4 or 5 times; I saw most of the bands in the OP at least once. I was a major concert junky all during the eighties.

Sparks! Holy cow, I had forgotten about them! My first show ever, at Crawford Hall at UCI( (converted gym).

And thanks to the OP, I now have “Are You Ready for the Sex Girls?” stuck in my head…
