It seems that my sister and two of my nieces chipped in to buy me a present. It was supposed to be delivered to my house tomorrow but it arrived this morning.
It’s an Epiphone guitar; a Les Paul Special ll-LE. It’s a solid body electric that came with a very small amplifier that I haven’t tried yet. The guitar itself seems to play pretty well from the little I can play. I’m absolutely floored by this gift; it was totally a surprise.
Do we have anyone on the boards with any experience with this guitar? I’d like to know more about it having never played an Epiphone.
I don’t have any experience with that particular guitar but I can throw some light on the topic until more experienced musicians can fill in the holes.
Gibson’s Les Paul is, essentially, what started the electrified guitar phenomenon and the rest, as they say, is Rock N Roll History.
Epiphone is Gibson’s lower-end (not so expensive) series of guitars and they’re fine for beginners like us. Learn with it, grow with it, and you’ll probably grow out of it as well. That’s not a problem. As your skills improve and change you’ll find your preferences and requirements will refine and you may find a different guitar fits your particular style, mechanics, and needs.
But first things first. I suggest you learn to play the guitar, then learn to play the amp. There’s a difference, and I’m sure WordMan and a few others can be more eloquent about it than me.
Congrats and good luck to you!

[I’ve got a Gibson Les Paul Double-Cut for which my skills do not do justice.]
