Just saw on tv how the actor Jim Varney had lung cancer(a tumor) ,then it gave his heart an infection. He’s in remission now,and bald from chemo, but seems to be doing okay.
No shit! I always did love the Ernest movies as a kiddie. Especially Ernest Goes to Camp, and Ernest Saves X-Mas, freaking hilarious stuff! I don’t find his new movies to be all that great though, although he was pretty cool in Toy Story.
I wonder how Vern is taking all this? Know what I mean?

Is it just me (actually, I), or is there more than a passing resemblance between Jim Varney’s “Ernest P. Worrell” character and Howard Morris’ “Ernest T. Bass” from “Andy Griffith?”

In just a passing look, yes. But a deeper look at the characters reveals that E.P. Worrell is a good guy, and Bass is a mischiefmaker.
BTW, did you know that Howard Morris (Ernest T. Bass) was a director of the Andy Griffith Show?
