Earth becoming unstable?

Fighting my own ignorance since 1957.

I remember reading or hearing somewhere that there was a theory that the polar ice caps periodically did a dramatic shift to the equitorial regions, and that this could be explained by the weight of those caps growing to a point that it became unstable. It’s perhaps plausible when you consider that the earth’s crust is floating on a molten core (OK, there’s a nickel core inside of that, don’t get picky).

So, who knows, perhaps many of us will find ourselves at the North Pole tomorrow…

Pantellerite, I thought the Kraftts were killed in a Phillipine eruption, not japanese one.
