OK, so i tried to file my taxes online today, and got an email saying it was rejected. After managing to barely understand the error I was given and look it up in a large PDf file, I determined the gist of it was that what I wrote down for my earnings for last year did not match what I wrote on my tax return. I looked in my fiels ,but could not find a copy of my W-2 or tax return from last year. What;s the easiest way to find out what my wages were last year? The IRS? Just call my former employer?
WAG ensues: Former employer is probably the first stop because they can probably check it faster. Then IRS. Good luck
Well, I thought about it a bit more, and they want my primary prior year adjusted gross income, not just my salary. So I guess they want what my salary was, minus my deductions? I think all I took out was the standard deduction, but I may have also taken out some student loan interest. So it sounds like I’m going to have to find out how to get this info from the IRS on Monday. That sounds like it will be fun phone call.
I think you only need the AGI as a security check when filing electronically, and it’s not needed if you file a paper return. So I think the simplest fix is to just mail in the return.
