Finished Moon Called this morning. It wasn’t too bad and for fans of that light werewolf/vampire etc. genre I recommend it.
The definition of a scholar (the way I have understood and been told by scholars) are ones who are making scholarly contributions to their field. Crossan for many years has just pulled things out of his ass. I am very logical and analytical (my mother would say to a fault) and when people make huge jumps in reasoning, it fusterates me. It also fusterates me when people just won’t listen to others. And Crossan can be very narrow. Borg is sort of a cool guy and I think holds more clout as a historian than Crossan.
But you have intrigued me even more about this book. In my Easter Basket were two books–Pliny the Elder’s Natural History (famed uncle of Pliny the Younger)and Broder’s Edition of the Divine Comedy (for $10 no less…Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise) os it may be a while before I get around to it but I am going to read it. I rarely read anything I completely agree with but I still think it is important to expose oneself to ideas that may not be agreed with.
Curse you!
I eyed it at the bookstore and it isn’t in at my library system yet!
So, I’m reading Blow Me Down by Kate Macalister. Fun brain candy involving Pirates, VR and stuff.
I’m currently reading my way through H. Beam Piper’s The Complete Paratime, before I move onto Jeremy Wilsons’ Lawrence Of Arabia…
I just finished Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo (1939) and Stuffed by Brian Wiprud, a mystery that revolves around a dealer in works of taxidermy. I just started The Frumious Bandersnatch by Ed McBain. In it, a budding rock diva is kidnapped from an album-launch party aboard a big boat.
You owe me a keyboard.
Thank you for mentioning this book!
I started it today. I’m totally bowled over. I was laughing out loud on page 5, and again at page 86 – I had to put the book down and collect myself.
I can’t remember the last time I read anything this original, readable, engaging, thought-provoking, etc.
Are all of Morrow’s books this good? Damn.
