A friend of ours is graduating from Law School this month. We are going to her graduation party at the end of the month.
I was wondering what type of a gift was appropriate… I don’t really have any ideas for a material gift so I was thinking a check might do her some good!
How much do you think we should give her? She is a good friend although we don’t see her too often.
Any suggestion would be appreciated!
Reading glasses?
If your new lawyer is going into practice, a small something for their office would be nice.
Perhaps a small paperweight with the scales of justice or ???
I’m about to graduate from law school. I’m hoping for big, fat checks. Small ones won’t do any good - I’ve got a lot of debt. I’m looking for at least 4 figures. Seriously, if your friend has a job with a big law firm or a lot of debt, the amount of money you could give her would seem pretty insignificant. (I am not taking a high-paying job and need all the money I can get.)
Personally, I wouldn’t want any cheesy/cutesy law junk. One thing I would like that’s affordable is books. Fiction, to be exact. I haven’t had a chance to read many novels while in law school. A law student might enjoy a gift certificate to a salon. I haven’t had a chance to get a haircut, my skin’s broken out from the stress, and I’m badly in need of a massage.
By the way, if anyone’s getting a sudden urge to send me a graduation present, I’m more than happy to send you my address.
My mother has discovered that she can give any woman a gift certificate for a massage. It has been a hit with everyone so far because it is one of those things that many people wouldn’t think to treat themselves to.
I second the book and gift certificate suggestions, but if you want to get someone an actual gift, rather than a piece of paper, what about a very nice fountain pen? You can tailor the style to the giftee, you can have it engraved if you like, and it’s small enough that it won’t clutter up an office.
I just occured to me that I should’ve said “day spa” instead of “salon.” Give her the works (if you can afford it) - facial, massage, manicure, pedicure.
My cousin graduated from law school and I got her the Oxford Book of Legal Quotations. It was a hit.
Very good ideas guys!
She for sure would enjoy a massage, who wouldn’t. I like the fountain pen idea as well, but very few people actually use them… It might be nice.
Books… You can’t go wrong with books either…
OK now I got to go shopping!
Thanks a lot!
