easy to shave - not so much

So, my son has started shaving. Uses an electric "cause of a slight complexion problem. Doesn’t do very well. I’m afraid he’ll tear up his face with a safety razor, but he’s getting that wipsy adolescent beard thing, neither of us like it. How to get a good shave w/ minimal bloodshed?

Nair

Tips for better electric shaves:

Clean and dry face. Teens are often oily so be sure to have him wash with soap and dry well, then shave after waiting 15 minutes or so. Those 'Lectric shave solutions may help, since the alcohol it it will dry off his face.

Is he pressing the electric razor down too hard? Is he pulling his cheeks, chin, neck taut? Electrics can go against the grain pretty well, so make sure he’s going in the right direction, slowly, but not too hard.

I started shaving weekly around 8th grade and daily by 9th and I’ve always had pretty good success with an electric razor.

Do NOT use Nair on acne.

When I was young, I used an electric razor-- and you needed to keep that face DRY. Use talcum powder if you need to. In fact, you can pat your face with talc, leave it on, and then shave.

Oh, and don’t worry about shaving every day. Or in the morning. Shave when awake, and when necessary.

When using a wet razor, I like to use a hot, wet flannel on my face first, then put a good lather on my face, stroke slowly with the razor in a downward direction, and make sure the blade is clean before re-applying.

And go buy a styptic pen in case you cut yourself. This will sting, but it stops bleeding instantly (and none of that scabby, toilet paper face stuff).
