Help! I’m being eaten alive by fleas! And yes, i do keep clean, but the dog brings them in :(. I can count 4 bite marks on my legs between yesterday and today! This sucks royally, and it always seems to happen as summer ends ;(.
So, anyone sharing in my misery? Want to tell of your biting insect horror stories?
Just 4? I stayed at my Aunt’s house once the weekend they happened to take in a stray cat. I don’t know how many bites I got. Worse, it turns out I’m very sensitive to flea bites so each bite swelled up into a silver dollar sized welt, oozing pus and everything. Worse, my Aunt took this to mean that I was either anorexic or a rock star (the kind that doesn’t sing). Long story, I don’t understand it either.
There is the occasional flea in our house. We don’t have pets, but there are some neighborhood cats who, for some unfathomable reason, enjoy hanging out by our house.
I was lounging on the living room carpet one day, when I actually saw a flea trekking across the carpet. (Made me think of that Tiny Toon Adventures cartoon with Flea-o.) Anyhoo, I grabbed a piece of Scotch tape, and taped the little bugger right to the spot on the carpet he had paused at. I left him there all day.
However, it used to be worse when the next door neighbors had their dog. My parents and I once spent an entire dinner being exsanguinated by what felt like a whole damn circus’s worth of fleas.
Tater: well it’s four right now, but I know in a week i’ll have more :(. It happens like this every year, and I seem to be the only one in the house those damn fleas are attracted to. It’s never mom or dad, just me. And I dont even sleep with the dog in my room. They do. Ugh.
That’s what we give our dogs. One pill per month, and we have never seen a single flea in either our house or our yard in two years. No ticks, either. If they made a pill to keep mosquitoes away, I would take it myself.
Frontline is another good one, and they make that in an applicable form (spray-on), I believe.
Well, good news is, today my parents took the dog into the vet, and brought home Advantage. So hopefully the fleas will go away, but today, i found three more bites. That ups my total to 7. I guess I should be glad I dont live in the tropics, i hear there’s quite a variety of biting insect there.
Mosquitos and fleas love me, too. I spend every summer with my legs covered in bites. Also, I must be allergic, because they swell up and hurt, and don’t go away for a really long time. I actually have scars from bites. Yuck! My mom used to have the same problem, so maybe it is somehow hereditary.
My cat never goes outside, but one year I must have brought one in after gardening, and we got flea infested. My cats didn’t let me know by itching, because I started getting bit before the cats even knew that fleas were in the house!
Several people have told me that taking alot of mega vitamin B complex does something to repel fleas AND 'skeeters. This doesn’t work for me, but I know some people that swear by it.
This year I bought some mega-buck stuff from England called “Alfresco-Beauty without bites.” I got it through a website on the internet, which I can dig up for you if you want to try it. So far, it has worked better than anything I have tried, and it is supposedly all natural.
Several years ago, before my parents discovered some form of flea pill, we used to come home to fleas jumping on us. One night when we got back from vacation I went downstairs to go to bed and the fleas absolutely jumped onto my legs. I didn’t count them, I just remember that I was slapping them away. It scared the hell out of me.
Three days ago I got stung by something (not a bee - and it really fucking stung too) on the back of my upper arm. Then it swelled up and itched like shit. It finall calmed down this morning, thank God. I also have mosquito bites on the back of my foot, like that part below the ankle but above the heel, where the skin folds…impossible to itch. I think that might be the worst spot to have a bite.
Also, yesterday while I was sitting outside with a friend, some sort of ant/spider bit y hand and now I have a big bite mark. Does it get any nastier than that? Yuck yuck yuck!
Good luck with the fleas, though. My dogs take Sentinel too and have no problem.
These in particular have owners. They stare at you as if to say, “Who the hell died and let YOU live here??” Or so it seems. You know how cats are. I love 'em anyway.
The cat that destroyed the mice over the weekend is the son of a feral Hawaiian cat
Oh, and before this gets way too off topic - the ex and i used Advantage on our dog there. She came out of the Humane Society with heartworm and we had to get her treated, so we were religious about giving her heartworm and flea pills every month. We squirted that stuff between the cat’s shoulder blades, too, since she was outside a lot.
