Eating in Las Vegas

See post #9. Or try Lindo Michoacan or Toto’s. Neither is that close to the Strip however.

btw, what is your convention for? UTW?

Missed that.

No, TSW.

To hijack a bit…

Does anyone know what happened to the Vegas based Doper who used to post a bit on religious (Christian) issues/reforming his life?

He also seemed to talk like he had been in a jail or prison setting at some point.

He was an interesting guy (possibly a mechanic) and I havent seen his name around for a while.

Hope he is well.

I am fond of Piero’s - it feels like what Vegas used to be under the mob and the Rat Pack.

We have a Hilton timeshare based out of the Flamingo. I do not say this to “brag” (yeah right) or promote them in any way - the only reason is to excuse my following recommendation which we would not ever ever ever ever ever ever ever have gone to in a million years if we would not have had a coupon and thought “what the hell - it will be a funny story, right?”

I give you: “Toby Keith’s ‘I Love This Bar and Grill’” at Harrah’s Casino. (Riiiiiiiiiiight off the monorail exit, smack dab between Harrah’s and the Imperial Palace.)

Well, I was thinkin’ you must loooove country to be here, but nay…they were playing hip hop and dance and all sorts of stuff when we were there so it was sort of anything goes (though we went for lunch.) If you order a soda or a tea or a lemonade you better LOOOOVE that lemonade. They bring it in a big 'ol mason jar with a straw in it. Then whatever sammich or whatever you order is 3x as big as you think it’s gonna be. The whole time you’re waiting for your food, the bar is trying to get people to come up and dump free tequila shots into their mouths. Uh, really? At 11am? I’m like drunky mc drunkerson but even that’s too drunky for me, thanks. So ANYWAYS good food and drink and lot’s of it tip there.

Also good mexican food to be found at the Sahara (far end of the strip). Kind of unnoticed. (Also on the Monorail line) I don’t remember what the restaurant was called - I think we were the only people there when we went. I guess people like the “flash” places. Good Happy hour drink specials at the Hilton (two for one- drinks are strong and you get two at a time) - food is crap. Haven’t been there since they dismantled the Star Trek stuff - can’t comment on anything since then. The dry ice drink in a fishbowl was AWESOME though.

Toby Keith’s place is one of our regular stops. In fact, it’s usually where we head the second we get into town. Great place to eat and get your drink on. One Toadsuck Pond and I’m ready for town.

We’ve eaten at Toby Keith’s and Margaritaville and Cabo Wabo (Lake Tahoe) and now I’m wondering how many other rock star/liquor theme’d restaurants I need to eat at?:dubious:

Gah! The restaurant with paintings of the monkey loving mafioso on the wall. Seriously, check the website and the 3rd image that comes up has the picture. At my last company the holiday party was always held there and that painting always creeped me out.

For Mexican Gardunos at the Palms is pretty good. Not as good as the original in New Mexico but it is better than most out here.
