ebay and income tax

I’m thinking about selling some things on ebay. I was wondering, if I sell anything, do I have to declare it when I file my taxes ? Is there a certain amout of money that I can earn and not have to declare ? Do I need to fill out some forms ? Or is it just kind of like income from a yard sale ?

Technically you must declare your taxable income.

Now that you posted, the feds know about it so pay up. :slight_smile:

With garage sales you typically sell stuff for much less than you bought it for, so it is not income.

If you sell the items for more than you paid for them, it’s income.

You can treat it as a business and use 1040 Schedule C to report it. Or just put it on your 1040 under other income.
