Ebay misselling - should I leave a negative feedback?

So I’m all happy about buying myself a Wii on Ebay UK, especially considering that no shop in the country seems to stock one at the moment.

I bought my item on Ebay on Friday 18th just after 5pm, and their advert says that items bought before 5pm Mon to Fri are shipped the next day. “Fair enough” I think, so it’ll probably be shipped on either Saturday or if not then Monday. The item says fast delivery in the title and it’s posted using Parcelforce 24 which lists itself as delivering within 1 or 2 working days.

Friday 25th rolls around and still no Wii - I am not impressed. I email the seller politely asking what the hold up is and why I don’t have my item, and when I can expect to get it. I get a message back the next day saying they’re very sorry but my item has been held up “at customs” and will be dispatched first thing next week i.e. Monday.

Now, considering that the item I’ve been sold said it was in stock (and there were 32 of them) and that it was dispatching from Staffordshire in the UK, I can only conclude that somewhere in this process I’m being lied to. Either the seller didn’t have the item to hand when I bought it (meaning it was a misleading item) or they’re lying about why I don’t have it yet. Either way, I’m not happy.

Am I overreacting? Should I complain to Ebay or leave them a negative feedback making my disdain clear? Interestingly enough looking at their feedback there are several others who have had a similar problem to me, even with the same item. Hmmm…

I’d e-mail them back and ask how you can possibly have a Customs issue with an item that was physically in the UK at the time of the listing if they stated this in the ad, and see what they say.

Agreed. Try to resolve the situation through email before resorting to negative feedback.

On the other hand, the story about customs certainly sounds fishy. I’d be very curious to hear what the seller has to say.

You can’t retract feedback, so you probably shouldn’t leave it until the transaction is finished, one way or another.

Ebay does have some dispute resolution procedures you can use. They have menus of different complaints you can lodge depending on the situation.

It’s probably a dropship item, most high-end electronics on Ebay are. The seller probably listed their own location, as the location for the item, to make the buyers feel more secure.

Hope it gets sorted. If not try here for locating one. They actually had one in my local Game store last week and at list price too, so they do turn up now and again.
