eBay observation...sorta

As I’m writing this, there are two Ebay threads on page 1 of MPSIMS. I’ve noticed lots of Ebay questions on other forums too. Is it just me, or is information tough to get from their site?

FWIW- I had a problem with my old seller name. I was never able to reach anyone so I just registered a new name. Could just be me.

I’ll make this short…IMHO, eBay is unecessarily complicated, slighty more difficult to navigate than average, and buying/selling on there is an overall slow going process in which you usually don’t even make or save very much money. Not worth the hassle at all unless there’s something on there that you just absolutely cannot find anywhere else and you have to have it.

I post in the ebay online marketing newsgroup. Those people know their stuff. Some of
them are long time power sellers too.

ebay has like 100,000 new auctions per day so they can’t police them all, it seems they wait
until someone writes safeharbor about a questionable auction to do much.

I disagree.

I have saved a great deal of money buying things on there, and have made a surprising amount of money selling things that were one step away from being thrown out.

I agree with mouthbreather. I’ve made a buttload of money off eBay. And 99% of the people I’ve dealt with, sellers and buyers, were very nice people with whom I would cheerfully do business again. I will say, though, that it took me awhile to learn what qualifies as a good deal when buying off ebay. I fell for a few “Hard-to-find! Unique! One of a kind!” listings that were D: None of the above. Now I research things much more thoroughly!

Its a matter of knowing the market at the time. It can change daily. Because I get most
of the stuff that I sell for free, or very low prices, I can offer lower prices. But I usually only make about
$4-$5 average on video games so they aren’t worth it anymore.

I think there might be some web sites that show you whats selling these days.
