I listed this notebook last night on Ebay and having sold several notebooks in the past my usual MO is to keep slightly adjusting the price if necessary or adding extras over the next few days until someone bites.
I was pretty explicit in the listing that no overseas deals would be considered, but several buyers are disregarding this, and I’m getting several offers from Russian and Singaporean buyers to pay full price. These are quite probably all scams of one sort or another, but I’m curious as to how they work. Some are offering to Paypal, and others are offering CC numbers (with attached ID!) Is it all based on stolen credit card numbers or what?
I would think that they will pay you by paypal or CC and then when they recieve the goods contact Paypal or their CC company and say that they never recieved it,the payment would be cancelled or frozen.I have heard of people trying this kind of thing before. Although you may withdraw the money in time your Paypal account would probably get locked up and you would not be able to access it leaving any money on it in limbo.
The guy steals a credit card.
He buys all he can in a very short period of time (before it’s reported).
You send the goods thinking you’ve got the cash.
The bank is then told by the real card owner that it’s been stolen.
All of the transactions are reversed (up to 90 days).
You lose the money.
You no longer have the item.
It’s a scam, pure and simple.
Do not deal with them.
This problem also occurs in Paypal, so that is not secure for these types of transactions. If you do proceed this way, once the money is in your account, take it out. Remember the chargeback can happen for a very long time, so you may never feel comfortable using that same Paypal account again. Just in case.
