How many paying SDMB members are there to date? Curious … as currently displayed, 45,221 members appears to be a smidgen high, particularly, since nonpaying people are currently classified as guests. Even if there were 1,500 paying members at $5/year = $7,500/year for SDMB operations, it seems implausible that it could even begin to cover “Jerry and his fellow tech geniuses get paid. Little Ed gets paid, believe it or not. Periodic server upgrades, the monthly data line fees, 3-in-1 oil for the hamster wheel - it all adds up.”, plus servers capitalization, data lines, power, etc. It seems like $7,500/year would just be a drop in the bucket. What are the SDMB short and long term strategies / economics?
