Ecuador Peru dispute

I am heading to Minga Lodge https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Rio+Napo/@-2.0102008,-75.4622759,8z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x91dce6e9573b7663:0x854b729273c49090 in Ecuador. It is several hours drive from Quito into the Amazon. It seems to be in no mans land between Ecuador and Peru.
On a Peru map, it is in Peru.
On an Ecuador map, it is in Ecuador.

According to my research, the boundary dispute between these two countries has been lengthy but it was resolved in the late 90’s.

But I still don’t know what country I am visiting.

It’s in Peru. (I was in Iquitos within the area a couple of years ago.) Although the area was claimed by Ecuador, it’s been effectively under Peruvian control since at least 1942. There were some hostilities in the Andes up until the early 1990s. The boundary dispute was finally officially settled in 1999.

To assert its claim, maps published in Ecuador showed the entire area as part of that country. I have several. I suspect the map you have must be pre-1999.

The lodge you mention is in Ecuador. However, the site you show on the map is in Peru. You seem to have gotten the coordinates messed up. If you just did a search on “Rio Napo,” the Napo is a very big river that extends from Ecuador to Peru.
