I have pink spots. They’re appearing like a blooming rose garden all over me. I’ve had some for several months now. They do not change: not in color shape or size. They do not itch blister or ooze: they’re just there. Some are two or three inches across; most are a generally oval shape. Some are the yellowy-brown color of an almost faded bruise, some are bright pink and have been since they showed up weeks ago.
It is not a fungus (tried anti-fungal cream; no help). My doctor says it’s eczema. This doesn’t sound particularly like eczema from what I’ve read. Any similar experiences?
It’s a little hard to make a guess without more info or a picture. However, check out the following page and see if pityriasis rosea is more like what you have than is eczema: http://www.aad.org/pamphlets/pityrias.html
“Eczema” is often used as a catch-all term for skin rashes that aren’t obviously anything else. Both our boys have atopic eczema and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “Oh, my doctor says I have eczema too” from someone who has a totally different skin condition. (Which isn’t annoying unless they start telling me we’re treating it wrong, but I’m getting off-topic here.)
A dermatologist could tell you a lot more than your general practitioner.
Don’t count on it. I went to my dermatologist, he said, “Oh, you have eczema. Use this cream and some moisturizer.” Wow. Breakthrough.
Despite the advances in medical science, it’s still pretty impossible to diagnose the causes of or effectively relieve the symptoms of a lot of chronic skin conditions.
My dermatologist told me that I have Eczema. I have odd little spots all over my body with white little bumps that itch and they break out when I am stressed out.Mostly they are on my arms and my back but I have had them on my legs and face when I am under alot of stress. My dermatologist gave me tons of cremes to put on my “spots” but mostly what works for me is trying to stay as calm as possible.
A few years ago I did have some pinkish spots all over my chest and neck that would not go away. They didn’t itch or bother me except for looking really strange. I tried several store bought cremes but none worked. I went to my doctor and they gave me a shot to fight the “rash” but it didn’t do anything to it. I went back and the nurse on duty just applied some basic Calamine lotion to it and it cleared up right away. She said sometimes you have to wait for them to break down to cure them. Whatever happened I was glad it worked. I should note that I had previously tried Calamine lotion and nothing happened.
I agree with flodnak, go see a dermatologist. They’ll scrape some of the skin off to find out what’s going on with your rash and they can give you the best diagnosis. If nothing else it will give you peace of mind and you’ll know if it’s anything to worry about. Good luck!
Eczema is itchy, and when you scratch, you break the skin and microbes can enter and initiate new infections. These new infections may tend to appear in round or oval shapes.
I’ve had eczema all my life, but only went to a specialist a couple years ago. I had better success than did toadspittle: the doctor prescribed some triamcinolone acetonide and it worked like magic.
