Ed Norton Was "Too Good" For Her

I remember vaguely a female actress saying a line like “I’m dating Ed Norton and the sad part is he’s too good for me.”

That’s not an exact quote but close enough

It must be from a sitcom, 'cause I almost never watch dramas. Any ideas where this might have come from. It’s driving me batty trying to figure it out.

Aw man. I thought this was gonna be a Trixie-bashing thread.

Are you talking *Honeymooners *Ed Norton? Or Fight Club Ed Norton?

Either way, you’re probably thinking of Demi Moore.

I think I confused people, as a matter of fact I know I did.

It had to be a sitcom, and the actress was comparing the man she was dating to Ed Norton. Not that she was actually dating Ed Norton.

I guess it was because he was “common” and she says “he’s too good for me.” In otherwords she’s dating a common person and that common person is too good for her.

But it was a TV show and it most likely was a sitcom, cause I rarely watch dramas. Which means it’s probably and old TV like form ten or 20 years ago.

Ten or twenty years ago is old? Whippersnapper…

At first I was convinced it was Roz Doyle from Frasier, in reference to when she dated a garbage man.

Then I remembered Norton was a sewer worker.

So the closest I can come up with is Rebecca from Cheers: “Hey, by the way. Did I tell ya? Don got a job offer with the sewer department. Keep your fingers crossed for us. Can you believe that? I shoot for Donald Trump - and I end up with Ed Norton.”

She doesn’t say anything about him being too good for her, but at least she mentions Ed Norton.

Any chance it’s from Love & War? Ray is a garbageman.

This is what I was thinking.

I believe in another episode, she does say that “I’m marrying a plumber and he’s too good for me.”

I must’ve combined them in my head. Thanks guys.

It turned out she was right - an episode of Frasier discussed the fate of some of the Cheers characters, and Rebecca had been dumped and now spent her time at the bar. She didn’t work there any more, she just hung out a lot…

It was Rebecca from Cheers. In the last couple of episodes she met a plumber (played by Tom Berenger) and fell in love with him. I think Rebecca had two separate lines. Something like:

“I wanted Donald Trump and I got Ed Norton.”

and

“I’m in love with a plumber, and I’m not good enough for him.”
