If Ed’s comment was legally sexual harrassment, I guess I could sue the foreman of a contruction company if he shouts something as I walk by. Sorry, Ed’s comment wasn’t sexual harrassment. And as insults go, good Lord, it’s pretty mild. Look at the stuff that regularly gets thrown about. Geez, you should see some of the emails I get from the TM who are displeased with my moderating.
I kinda liked Ed showing a bit of personality to the TM. If this makes him never post anything besides official announcements again, I’m going to be pissed. All of the posters here get to spout horrific insults; do you think it would be right to report them to their boss? Or is it only those of us in “positions of authority” who get this sort of threat? Is the next person who doesn’t like my moderating going to report me to my RL boss? Is this the sort of real-life vengeful spitefulness what we want? We allow you guys a long rein to insult us; count all the insults of Ed and the admins and mods in the Pit. But Ed says something about you and you threaten to tell on him to his boss?

Well, Gaudere, aside from the harrassment issue (and who knows–Canada may have different laws), there’s the issue of slander. Ed DID suggest that Kelli might be a lesbian–not that I think there’s anything wrong with that–but it’s still not exactly cool to say that, especially given his position of power in this message board.
Then, of course, there’s that whole new rule thing that Ed brought out. Remember how he said that “Fuck you” is okay, but slander is out? I think Ed is at the very least breaking his own rules here. First warning, Ed.
You know, it’s funny. The mods and admin here seem to be able to go around and insult the patrons all they want, but if they don’t get along with one another, there’s hell to pay. You realize that the patrons are the reason why you can even be mods and admins, right? And that every time you insult one of us, you create a hostile environment that, while perhaps not illegal, certainly isn’t inviting.

David B was held to a higher standard because he was a moderator. He was busted as being an interloper on another board. He was severely reprimanded and apologized publicly.
Shouldn’t the main administrator of this board be held to a higher standard if the moderators are?

If she posted something to that effect (which I haven’t found with the search engine), then he would be parroting what she already said. Right?
Otherwise, it seems like a pretty normal remark that he was making. Maybe not the best thing he could have typed, but hardly a world class flame, hardly slanderous, and hardly worthy of yet another in the growing line of legal threats.
But, I withhold taking an actual stand until I can actually find the thread this is referencing.

And as for how it’s slanderous…well, would you want someone insinuating you like to take it up the ass? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with it, but if it’s untrue, it’s not cool to go around making comments hinting at that, is it? Especially when the person who makes the comments is admin, and apparently has carte blanche to go around calling the patrons of this site anything he wants. As long as Kelli isn’t another moderator, Ed can make whatever rude comments he wants about her. He could do the same to any of us. And that isn’t exactly fair, nor does it make any lurking newbies really want to stick around here when they see they could get the same treatment just for daring to argue with Ed.
And while Ed is parroting what Kelli said elsewhere, he’s doing it in order to make a snide comment. See above for why that sucks.
Note I’m not making any comment about the legality of what Ed has said. I’m not up on my harrassment law. I do, however, think that Ed is being a real dickhead on this one, and he owes Kelli an apology just because doing so will allow him to regain some semblance of humanity.

Not making assumption about the sex of a person’s partner is simply good netiquitte in most situations.
I daresay Ed’s “hostile environment”–which consists of a single swipe at a poster who has consistently complained about him–is less terrifying to our posters than the royal flaming some of them get at the hands of a select few posters. Yet I’m not inclined to pull your teeth and make you all nicey-nice to each other; please extend to us permission to make a less-than-robot-like comment once in a while.
We are held to higher standards. I don’t think a hint that kell was in a bad mood because she wasn’t getting oral sex is outrageous, particularly when kell posted about it in the first place. How often do you see a Mod bitching at a poster for 300 posts, like Ed gets every time he does something unpopular? I don’t recall any Mod-started flame-threads. When we get out of line, Ed tells us to stop; if we don’t obey, we’re canned. That simple.
I am seriously concerned about kell’s threat to go to Ed’s boss. Can you really say this is fair? Are you going to report me to my boss if I hint that you’re not “getting any”?

That Ed brought up your lover’s oral shortcomings? I searched a bit and didn’t come up with the specific cite, but presumably Ed didn’t make this up out of whole cloth. And you did mention that oral sex was a hobby of yours. Of course, if he did make it up, then it was pretty tasteless and he should apologize.
Are you upset that Ed didn’t assume you were heterosexual? I think that to disclaim an unwarranted assumption is in no way harrassing, slanderous or even objectionable. In fact, given that both sexual orientations are equally respectable, the disclaimer seems de rigour. I think that several of our friends here would be somewhat peeved if someone did assume they were heterosexual.
Ed does say that he doesn’t spend a lot of time on MPSIMS, and his ignorance is understandable; he’s just trying to be sensitive.
What “higher standard” do you want to hold Ed to? Not mentioning sexual topics previously discussed publicly in our community? Did I miss a turn and we all suddenly became prudes?
Did he violate some standard by implying that lamenting your lover’s shortcomings is the essense of MPSIMS? I certainly don’t find the subject objectionable, but I would certainly be surprised to find it in any other forum.
Please enlighten me. There’s a lot of righteous indignation being tossed around, and I’m honestly not understanding it. I’ve offered the above analysis not as a refutation of your points, but to show you where I’m coming from. I’m really asking with all due respect.

I read the thing, and I don’t think Ed meant to be insulting, or to imply that you were possibly a lesbian, and I’m the most militantly PC anti-harassment person I know.
