Effects of Perception on Reality

I was thinking: how much can modern physics tell us about the functioning of our brain? Are the things we have learned revelations about the nature of an external reality or consciousness itself?

The brain, biologically is mainly a hunk of hard working wet meat and and chemicals. There have been some scientists (mathematican Penrose) who hypothesize that there are quantum level influences in the way the brain works at the most fundamental levels, but this is regarded by most scientists in the fields related to brain science as highly speculative at best, and incipient tin foil hattery at worst.

See Hameroff-Penrose paper.
