I’m going to have a few days in Alaska in August, and someone told me about the Denali Highway. Sounded like it would be cool. Anyone been there? Is 100+ miles of gravel road too much for to tackle without a couple of extra spare tires?
I was up to Denali, on a tour bus, though.
Simply astounding.
GO. (But a few days in Alaska is not enough!)
I’ve driven it. 20+ years ago though. I wouldn’t do it without a good spare, a good truck, a co-driver and a flight plan.
Last time I went end to end in a Datsun pickup. Made it without mishap, but I was a bit too paranoid to enjoy the scenery all that much. But if you rent a Land Rover with good tires, I’d say do it. You’ll see Alaska the was it is meant to be seen.
You mean the road in the park? There are buses that take people in and out and you are not allowed to drive in (unless things have changed) without a permit.
