Eighties TV Trivia

This is killing me!

I don’t have a lot of information but maybe, just maybe someone can put my tired mind to rest.

I’m looking for the name of a show (I actually just need someone to confirm that I’m not crazy and that I haven’t had false memories implanted in my brain) that was on the 80s. I think it may have only run one episode ever (not much more than that, at the least.)

I think it was called “Allen’s Room” - I know it was called “Someone’s Room”, I just can’t remember who.

It took place in the crazy home of this kid (Alan?) and much, as the name suggests, took place in his room. It was a comedy and it was very funny and very eclectic. The strangest things happened in that one episode. Everything about this guy’s house and room, and mother, was crazy.

At one point, I remember, the kid ended up, in this music video-like sequence, in Nelson Mandela’s prison cell, and James Brown was performing some whacked out song about him.

I’m telling you, everything about this show (even though I can only recall one episode) was manic and whacked out.

Am I crazy or does someone out there remember this?

Please help.

James Brown’s entry in IMDB.com

Nothing seems to turn up for James Brown that even sounds like “Allen’s Room”, or anyone else’s room, for that matter. He should have gotten at least a guesting credit, and IMDB would’ve caught that. Hmmm …

Coming up with goose egg … sorry.

You aren’t crazy. I vaguely remember this show, but only know about as much as you. I’ll look around. This sounds like it was weird enough to be on FOX.

Probably not what you’re looking for, but was it Herman’s Head?

Was it this?

It did indeed run only one episode - the pilot. I remembered it because I remembered it was produced by Eddie Murphy.

Off to Cafe Society.

Thank you, Mr. Blue Sky. I believe you have found it! The show he suggested was called “What’s Alan Watching?” Here, again, is a link to some info regrding the show he posted: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0169511

Fantastic! After 13 years, I’m ready to move on with my life.

Hey, look at that! Directed by Thomas Schlamme, of West Wing fame!
