I’m with you. It got truly ridiculous with the second expansion. In werewolf mode you could get across that island in the space of a couple minutes. Even without lycanthropy, I used items I’d enchant with permanent levitation and speed to move around, and it was quicker than using boats or siltstriders. The place just wasn’t very big. Compared to Daggerfall, it was tiny, though there was a lot more stuff in it than in the much larger space in Daggerfall.
That said, the first expansion was small geographically but added a lot of game, so if they head in that direction it could be okay.
The real money cheat was to go into the Construction Set and change Creeper’s gold on hand to like 100,000. Then it was really easy to just sell anything and everything to him. He always gives full price, too.
The island was fairly small, especially compared to the scope of Arena or Daggerfall. I used to create the scrolls of Icarian flight (in the editor) and have a levitate spell handy, then jump my way across the map. That was fun.
Still, compare it to other RPGs, like Fable. Such a huge world in comparison, and it’s not like there wasn’t enough to do.
I’m really looking forward to the next installment.
What I hated about Arena was getting trapped in walls.
What I hated about Daggerfall was slipping through floors and ending up on the wrong side of walls with an infinite fall below me.
Was Morrowind as buggy? Cuz if it was I’ll stick to Might & Magic…or maybe I’ll just paint the living room.
Oh, sure. Unlike the other two, though, they fixed it by adding the control panel. When you start to fall through scenery, you can tap the tilde key, enter “tcl” and “fly” back to where you were. Very handy.
Of course, some might say they should’ve just made it so that doesn’t happen in the first place but those people are sissies.
I loved Daggerfall. Do you remember how wild-ass those 3-D maps were at the time?
I did not like Morrowind at all. I found the color scheme depressing, My son loved it. Unlike me, he does not need to see pretty flowers in order to enjoy a game - Diablo excepted, of course.
