The late, great Albert Collins - a Tele man practically from birth - told a story about touring Africa by car: chugging along in the middle of nowhere, he had his Telecaster fly off of the car’s roof and crash-land onto the highway (no doubt an unrehearsed performance).
The guitar’s case had broken open on impact, and the guitar had taken a few high-speed tumbles before skidding to a stop on the pavement. When Albert went back to retrieve his prized Tele, he found the case in pieces, of course.
And the guitar? He’d need to have it repainted after he finished playing it on tour.
