One of the strings on my accoustic broke (A) and I don’t feel like spending the money on an entire set of strings for it. I have an extra set of electric groundwounds and was thinking about stringing it up with those and am wondering if it is worth it. I have, believe it or not, strung up an electric with some bronze accoustics before (saudi arabia, no choice) and it sounded like trash.
Anyone ever put nickle electrics on an accoustic before? I Am wondering what it sounds like.
I am trying to remember if I have ever done this, and I can’t recall. Furthermore, I don’t exactly what “groundwound” strings are - if they are roundwound that have been pressed or ground down to resemble flatwound, then you will definitely lose resonance and tone on an acoustic…
Other than that, IIRC, nickel electrics shouldn’t be much of a problem on an acoustic - maybe a little less tone. Putting electrics on an acoustic isn’t nearly as big a deal as the reverse…
I was also wondering about Groundwounds…
It’ll work, just won’t sound even…or good.
Acoustic wire strings are typically bigger diameter than electrics. If you string your acoustic with smaller strings, it will be a little quieter, it will be easier to bend notes, and, because they’ll ride a little lower in the nut, they may buzz on the frets a bit.
