Hell, conservative columnist Kathleen Parker said Hillary should run and win in 2016. There’s still mucho buzz and support for it out there.
Since the 2016 election is pretty much already over the best Warren can do is advance her agenda during the primary race by getting the next president to tack a bit to the left.
And then Michelle Obama runs for Senator of New York, and the cycle begins again!
I lived there for over a decade, and I agree.
Please tell me you’re kidding. A year is an eternity in politics, let alone three.
She has little experience and that would be tough to overcome. Though Obama clearly proved not impossible. She is not my first choice but I am not sure what Democrat looks good. Almost anyone will probably have a better chance then Hillary to win.
For those that might care: Elizabeth Warren on the Issues
She may do it just to improve her chances of winning it the next time around. Or to get the Veep job. As noted, she’s not getting any younger.
Megan McArglebargle? Seriously? She of the gastritic calculator and the pink Himalayan salt? REALLY?
You must not have been watching the same campaign I did, because I don’t remember Obama saying anything about “getting bankers in jail”.
I’d vote for her. She doesn’t have much of a record, having just started her political career, but I don’t see that much evidence she’s particularly far left of the President. Financial regulation is the main thing that makes her stick out from other Dems, and its hard to argue she is that far out of step with Obama on that issue, given that the only reason anyone knows who she is is that she worked with the Administration on Dodd-Frank and was then appointed by the Prez to run the Consumer Protection Office.
Plus, apparently its in the Constitution somewhere that we can’t go more then one or two Presidential elections without having a Massachusetts politician on the ticket.
I’d actually prefer Warren over Clinton - I’m not fond of Presidential family dynasties in either party. But at this point I don’t expect her to run. However, she’d make a great VP for anyone except Hillary.
Don’t see it happening. A career academic in the WH? That only happens in the movies.
And in 1912.
Huh. I knew Wilson was an academic but I didn’t realize he’d only been out of academia for a couple of years when he became POTUS.
The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there.
I suppose that’s worth noting, since Warren wouldn’t have been allowed to vote for herself in 1912.
Sure, because they can write anything they please and get to fill up column inches.
I’m sticking to my prediction that she won’t run. And Biden won’t run. And that somebody representing a younger generation will win. You cannot look out over the near-term future and tell me that a grandparent will win the Presidency. (And yes, I’m aware that Chelsea doesn’t yet have any children, but she probably will by 2016. And Hillary still looks like a grandmother.) Warren will be a grandmotherly 67 in 2016 whether or not her kids have had kids.
The next election will be all about America’s future. Future elections cannot be won by anyone representing the past, or seen to be representing the past. JFK is the prime example of winning by looking like the future. Nixon was almost as young but never came across that way.
Is there any sign that the Republicans will run a 65-year-old like Romney in 2016? None. Is there any chance the Democrats run someone a generation older than, say, Marco Rubio? None.
While I’m raising red flags, I might as well quote Nate Silver. “Punditry is fundamentally useless.” He’s quite right, and doubly so on punditry filling column inches with lazy froth on 2016.
Warren is already a grandmother.
I didn’t want to get into the other conversations but I just wanted to post about this. With the SCOTUS hearing 2 gay marriage cases this week, yes, I do think she came out in favor out of the goodness of her heart. I think she sees that its high time people supported this and she didn’t want to be a prominent politician still murky about her beliefs. I think that she hopes this will influence the SCOTUS along with all of the other people who came out for it, and it doesn’t influence her coming back in 2016 to run at all
I think it’s also in the constitution that they only win if their last name is Kennedy.
