Could she win? I’ve never been more impressed with a politician and cannot help but to hope she runs for the Presidency. My question is: will she do it and does she have a chance?
I hope she does but since she’s ACTUALLY a lefty instead of just a center-right black man that republicans have to fight against him saying the sky is blue, it will be more of the same obstructionism.
I think someday maybe, but probably not on 2016. Seems like Hillary will be running and if she does she has a lock on the nomination.
But Obama is not too far off as a precedent for Warren. A one term senator, followed by the presidency. Obama was a professor before that, and spent some time in the Illinois legislature. Warren was also a professor, though I don’t know her previous level of political activity at the local or state level.
A lot of folks like her a whole lot, including me, so I would certainly encourage her to look into it.
When you say she’s a “lefty”, can you be more specific? How does she differ from Obama (the centrist)?
Obama himmed and hawed to supplicate dummies like me that he would try to get bankers in jail to send a message to wallstreet, and then went right back to business as usual. At least Elizabeth Warren is getting in the so-called “regulator’s” faces and asking when the last time is the big banks have been to trial for breaking the law instead of settling for pennies on the dollar.
I believe Elizabeth Warren is not concerned with having a legacy of being a “great uniter” like Obama is, we don’t need a great uniter we need someone progressive.
I agree this is true and I think it is the most likely reason she wouldn’t get a nomination. She is, unfortunately, to the left of the Democratic leadership, which followed Bill Clinton to the right in the 90s.
I could see her running and possibly even winning in the next Presidential election cycle or three. She seems tough, smart and capable, telegenic in kind of a schoolmarmish way, and could run a good “for the little guy/gal against the Wall Street tycoons” campaign.
I’d rather see her taking a cabinet position with Hillary as president, then maybe in another term or two she could run.
She’s actually not as young as you seem to think. In 2020, she’ll be 71. In 2024, she’ll be 75.
I’d like Hillary for a term or two, followed by Warren for a term or two.
Whether or not she could win, she’s not exactly the kind of straight-shooter as the reputation she’s built around herself. Megan McArdle has written several times about the deceptive data-manipulation she’s done in order to make some nice public pronouncements. The ends seem to matter more to her than the means - or the honest truth.
Warren will be 83 years old if they each serve two terms starting in 2016. I don’t want an 83-year-old, even if she’s not named Ronald Reagan, as my president.
I’d like her to actually finish her term as Senator first. Warren should gain some experience governing before jumping to the big chair.
Dang, she looks to be in pretty good shape for a lady in her 60’s. I had no idea.
I’m still puzzled where people get the idea that Hillary is going to run.
She gets asked often, and she’s not stridently denying it AFAIK. That’s enough. And we already know she wants the gig, and her rep got highly polished as SoS.
I used to think she wasn’t, but come on… Why would she not want to be the 1st female president? The GOP field is still very, very weak, and she’d almost certainly get the Dem nomination. After all she’d done, she’s going to let some other woman be first? I doubt it.
And do you think she came out, publicly, in favor of SSM just the other day out of the goodness of her heart?
Everything I’m about to say is complete conjecture on my part.
If HRC doesn’t run in 2016, then I think Elizabeth Warren will probably give it a shot. Keep in mind, though, that in that scenario she wouldn’t be the automatic Dem frontrunner, as she would have to compete against folks like Joe Biden, Martin O’Malley, and Andrew Cuomo. She’d have to work for the nomination, but Hell, she totally appeals to the Democratic base, so she would absolutely have a shot.
That said, EW is actually my second choice for a post-Obama Dem POTUS, and no, my first choice is NOT HRC. I’ve indicated it before in earlier posts, but I really want Brian Schweitzer to run, and I’ve never even fucking been to Montana.
I hope for Anthony Weiner in 2020.
