Ellen Degeneres the new fourth judge on American Idol

Actually, if they’re just bound and determined to have a fourth judge, I think a former Idol finalist would be great. And there’s certainly a lot of them who aren’t that busy right now.

As I said I didn’t watch it this past year (except some of the performances on YouTube). What’s Kara like? Does she add to the show? Is she more like Simon or like Paula (i.e. hypercritical or ‘would-find-something-nice-to-say-about-Yoko-Ono’)?

In herself, she’s leaning more towards Simon or Randy. But she also had some things in common with Paula, both being female and singers, something which was apparent in the group dynamic from time to time.

I haven’t watched AI since the second season, but this makes me interested enough to give it another try.

Which is probably exactly what they intended–to spark the interest of people who weren’t already devotees.

She waits for Randy to speak and then echoes what he said. She gets into completely staged tiffs with Simon.

Kara sucks.

Kara makes my skin crawl. She ruined the show for me. She occasionally does this phony lisp-like thingy that all the popular girls did in high school (but yet they didn’t do it before or after high school so I know it’s not an actual impediment) and it makes me want to puke. And the reason it’s so annoying is because her personality sucks anyway, so it’s just one more piece of shit on top of a shit pile.

I’m kind of neutral towards Ellen; since Kara already torched the show, Ellen surely won’t be enough to save it. The best she can do is be subdued, charming, and humble. If she tries to be funny it’s going to be a trainwreck and viewers will jump ship in record number.

I love Ellen. I’m the dreaded loathed middle-aged mom demographic, and I think Ellen will do fine on AI. I’m looking forward to watching her next year. (I would bet most of the viewers are dreaded loathed middle aged types, don’t the young scorn AI crooning, or even sit down and watch it? Don’t they watch it on you tube or twitter or something?)… Since when do you have to have been through the music industry mill to come up with an opinion as to whether a singer is good or bad? There are going to be a series of Official Musical Guest Judges, anyway, the learned musical scholar Katie Perry among them… Ellen will represent ‘us’, the fans, and I say her vote will be as good as anyone’s. If she’s a disaster, she will bow out and can be replaced by Amy Winehouse or Britney Spears.

I haven’t seen a single episode of “Idol” since the second season, and probably won’t watch another. So, it makes no difference to me who the judges are.

That said… the judges on “American Idol” don’t really have much power over who wins or loses, so what difference does it make whether they have any real knowledge of or experience in the music business? The judges are really just entertainers, so why NOT pick a judge who’s likely to be funny?

It is entertainment. She could add some of that. I can see her when the really bad acts are performing. It does not matter too much who judges, the audience votes anyway.

Kind of a wasted opportunity. What they should’ve done is traveled the country, having young aspiring American Idol judges come in and judge a musical act infront of the three remaining Idol judges. Then the three judges could judge the judging, and let America vote on who they think would make the best fourth judge.

They screwed up when they let Paula get away, but to be honest the show just isn’t that interesting anymore.

True . . . it’s the producers who have that power.
