I remember watching a film on TV in the US around 1975 that may have been about the making of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. It showed Elton and the boys paddling around in a boat and it had some interesting interviews.
At the end of the film, I think, it showed Elton at a small foot-pump organ singing the song ‘Harmony’ from GYBR.
Does anyone know the name of the TV film I am remembering?
No, I don’t know the name of the film, but I’ll give this a bump so it stays near the top. I do remember the film, and I’d be interested if anybody does know it and whether its available anywhere on the Net.
There’s a British series that runs on VH1 every so often called “Classic Albums,” which takes an hour-long, track-by-track look at various…um, classic albums. I recently watched the one about the making of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and much of the footage you describe was included. You might want to check the credits next time it airs; they might provide the name of the show you’re looking for.
I’m not sure about that specific film either, but I own the DVD of the one Stephe96 mentioned. I haven’t watched it in a while, but there’s a picture on the back of Elton playing what looks to be a foot-pump organ outside, with the boys sitting around a tree, so it probably at least contains the same footage as the one you saw.
It’s simply called “Elton John: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, and I’m sure you could pick it up at any B&N or on Amazon.
I’ve been searching for the same film, and I don’t believe it is the same as the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road documentary, although GYBR might contain some footage of the TV film.
I found this information: “In 1972, filmmaker Bryan Forbes embarked on creating the film, “Elton John And Bernie Taupin Say Goodbye to Norma Jean and Other Things”, a documentary that chronicled the life of a young Elton John and Bernie Taupin at the infancy of their now legendary careers, a project that would take Forbes over a full year to complete.”
I have not been able to find the film…
