Is there a way to format a hard drive on an Emachine and install Win98 instead of having to use the Emachine System CD that installs Win98 along with all the other useless taskbars and commercial offers that installs with it?

I’ve never done it, or heard of it being done, but I’d guess you could do it with a boot diskette and a regular Win98 CD-ROM, just like you would with a new hard drive.
Yes but you need to make sure you can get all the drivers etc. before you format.
The only driver you really need is the one for your modem. Win98 has generic video, keyboard and mouse drivers that will at least get you running. As long as you can get online, you can download or update any other drivers you might need.
I see. I’ll give that a try tomorrow…thanks.

My b/f got Win 2000 working on my EMachine. I think he just used the regular Win 2K CD-ROM. He has great computer mojo, though. It might not work for a normal human being.
