Email timestamps are messed up...

…and I haven’t fooled around with my MS Outlook settings, so is there something else causing this, that I could actually fix?

Email timestamps for the past three days have shown that I’ve received these emails April 4-5, 2001. Time of day appears to be random (or at least not sequential). I’ve already emailed my mail hosts asking about it, but still haven’t gotten a response… grrr.

So is this a problem with Durga (my mail server) or with me?

It’s a problem with the clock of the computer on which your correspondent’s mail client resides. The mail servers in between will leave the timestamp created by the originating mail client untouched.

Just today I got an e-mail from a colleague whose mail client, Apple Mail, marked the time of sending as 11 January 1970.

I’d buy that if only certain emails from specific senders were coming in with a faulty timestamp – but they ALL are. Did the rest of the world suddenly time-warp back to April 2001?
