Embassy Closings

I’m quite confident that the BrokenBriton view of accountability is more like, “Something happened I don’t like so unless someone is fired or goes to jail, that’s further evidence of the fully corrupt and unaccountable nature of the US government.” Any hearing that concludes that there was no wrongdoing is simply evidence of further wrongdoing, not that conspiracy theorists were wrong.

FWIW, even the stridently partisan congressman Peter King was on the Sunday talk shows saying that the threat needed/needs to be taken extremely seriously, which has been echoed by politicians on the left as well as the right.

In other news, my neighbor’s car got broken into and the Canadian Mounties didn’t do a damn thing to stop it. But it appears as though nothing bad happened to the Canadian Embassy here in DC overnight… How conveeeeeeeient!

Oh wait, the Mounties aren’t the policeman of the world.

And what was Peter King’s assessment of the Benghazi attack and the lies that followed? Susan Rice went in front of cameras claiming it was protests. Some schmuck who made a movie that Muslims didn’t like was thrown in prison over it.

He was thrown in prison because he was on probation for bank fraud and violated the terms of the probation (which included not using the internet and not using aliases).

Yes, it was just a coincidence he was sent to prison for violating his probation at the same time his movie was blamed for the attack in Benghazi. A statement that was known to be false when Rice went on the News circuit.

It’s all just a coincidence.

OTOH, AQ is America enemy numero uno. I mean, it’s true that we defeated them and sent them running and brought them to their knees and broke their back and and and…

oh turns out AQ is franchised and all we did was break up one cell, sorta. AQ is still enemy #1. We are the World Al Qaeda police and if you don’t believe me ask the friends and relatives of the 1,000+ people we’ve killed in other countries with our drones. Of that 1,000, only 30 some were AQ combatants, BTW.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the government of Iraq said “Thanks for the invasion! Now GTFO and we’ll handle things from here!” several years ago.

Blaming the US Government for not stopping attacks in Iraq, where for very good reasons we’re not wanted anymore, is yet another “cheap shot” post which can hardly be taken seriously.

I hear the Fox News forums have ample discussion on that topic. Perhaps you can take the hijack over there.

The President authorises the act itself (in this case the closure). You then want him to have after-the-fact oversight of his own decision.

I guess it’s the only way as no one else is allowed to know the basis of the initial decision.

Somewhat unfortunate that both the President and the NSA stand to gain from the distraction.

He was sent to prison because his actions in the making of the movie violated his probation, and the existence of the movie became common knowledge when Rice connected it to the attack. So, no, it’s not a coincidence, but it’s also not retaliation, I don’t think. And it’s a hijack which doesn’t have much to do with the embassy closings (other than that the Administration might be reacting to make sure another Benghazi didn’t happen in ordering the embassy closings.)

The day to day running of embassies is done by the State Department, including their opening and closing. The president has oversight over that. But the President is the sole executive, and so long as he acts in a manner consistent with his executive authority, there isn’t any oversight beyond him.

If Congress suspects the President broke the law or exceeded his powers, they can hold an investigation or hearings, and if need be, censure him or impeach him or lower officials. But there’s no sort of "super-President’ who the President reports to, beyond the voters and the public at large.

Couldn’t be more wrong.

Wait - AQ is franchised now?

Do they pay their employees a Living Wage?

No, but the virgins are to die for.

There’s no rule they have to be female virgins, btw.

They should really run with that. I bet there’s a ton of gay guys who would self-radicalize.

Disagree.

Go look up US State Dept. drones flying over Iraq last year and pissing people off. Go look up Iraq/US intelligence cooperation and anti-terrorism cooperation and military sales cooperation and fuck it. Just go read something about it.

We may have surveillance drones in Iraq, but not combat operations. Any Iraqi terrorist attacks that are stopped are stopped by the ISF, not the US. Same for any that are not stopped-- blame the ISF, not the US.

So what you are saying is the State Dept can fly intel drones over Iraq to collect info about threats to Americans there, while simultaneously being blind to any intelligence regarding bombings going on all over the area? That’s what you’re selling?

Okay.
