I certainly hope you will show us pics when you are done. Or of the project in progress, whatever works.
“In progress” works for me.
The soup cans are to hold it taut; the unstretched version looks like this. Blocking is going to be interesting, since this is going to be 7 or 8 feet long altogether, and I don’t have a blocking board that long. I’m thinking maybe the ironing board, folding the scarf into thirds with something round at the folds? Will that work?
The alphabet is Arts and Crafts style. I used a booklet of alphabet charts that I had in with my needlework books – don’t remember when or where I got it. I’m sure there’s something similar online available somewhere.
Ye gods*, twickster, what are you going to do with that?
I’ve never heard of blocking in pieces so I don’t know how well that will work. Do you have an 8’ stretch of space in your domicile?
*og, the FSM, and the IPU, of course.
The problem isn’t the space, it’s finding a surface that I can pin it to. I’ve got area rugs, not wall-to-wall carpeting, and most of the rugs are kilims (thin, no pile). The dining room rug might work – biggest rug in the house, and it has a low pile. The trick would be keeping the freakin’ cats off it while it blocks.
Nice
Looks gorgeous! For blocking, have you thought of using interlocking foam tiles, the kinds used for kids to play on? They are pretty cheap and you can rearrange them in different shapes for different projects. Kinda like these.
I was going to suggest foam boards stuck together with extra pieces of board to keep them from buckling at the seams. Good luck!
That is a really good idea – as is taping together foam board. I’ll price out both options and see which is cheaper. (And then figure out who’s had a baby recently, if I go for the interlocking toys. )
You can also just run it corner-to-corner across your bed; doesn’t matter if it’s a little too long, just pin it to the sides. I like it!
:smack:
Yeah, that’ll work.
Okay, Brocade and Gansey. I tried Intarsia and Jacquard knitting, but that’s not it. I tried textured knitting and I think that seems like what you’re looking for?
Now I have to go look up Brocade and Gansey…
I wrote a how-to article, with pics, for teemings, for thems as are interested.
Many thanks to all of you who helped me figure out the project!
